Hi Guys,
I just migrated here in the US... I usually carry a Salt 1... Can I carry this around here in Texas? When/where? What are the restrictions?
Best,

Yes you can absolutely carry the Salt 1 here. I often carry the Cold Steel Espada large myself if that gives you some idea. :p
I always either have a Spyderco Military or Endura on me as well.
5.5" is the limit on folder blade length around these parts.

Your Salt 1 should be ok anywhere in Texas. According to US Knife Laws, the blade limit in Texas is 5.5". Only exceptions are Corpus Christi, which has a 3" limit, and Dallas, which has a 4" limit. There are some other restrictions, none of which apply to normal folders.

Yea it's wise to look at specifics. Federal buildings and schools usually have a no-tolerance policy. Same goes to many jobs which hold to a "no weapons" policy depending on what you sign.
Texas may have looser regs but they aren't a "one length fits all" state. Few are when you really look at the laws.

Yeah, public places you should be alright, as long as you aren't "brandishing" or threatening anyone with it, and not in courthouses or federal buildings, and I'm not sure about schools/colleges.
Also, specifically prohibited are daggers, double-edged blades, and bowie knives, though they don't define what exactly they consider a bowie knife. I understand San Antonio also has a further restriction against locking blades, supposedly only ever used to combat gang activity. Longer blades like a filet knife can of course be carried with you when fishing, camping etc. where you would normally use such a knife.

Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
Here is the actual law regarding knives and other weapons
http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/D ... .htm#46.02
Basically, 5.5" is the limit for knives, whether fixed or folder. They can be carried concealed or in plain view, it does not matter.
Daggers, Bowies, throwing knives, spears and switchblades are prohibited, meaning you can only carry them on your property, to and from your vehicle etc. with the exception of switchblades. Technically you shouldnt even own one unless you are a collector/curio, but thats a whole 'nother discussion.
Assisted openers are not switchblades, and are perfectly legal to carry, provided they meet the other restrictions.
