Who here would like to see a tactical sage?? Maybe a black blade, digi camo g-10 scales and a compression lock. Hmmmmm.... Sounds familiar huh??

Well, they've been trying to stick close to the first use of the lock and, IIRC the first compression lock to reach production was the Gunting. It had G-10 scales, but the lock was on the opposite side from every compression lock since. Not sure when it will show up on a Sage but, when it does, it will be fun to see how Spyderco handles it.

Not really for me. It's a choil knife with very little cutting edge. Not to say it wouldn't work in one of those horrible situations.

The Sage3 is probably the closest. Just needs a dye job.

Why? lots more "tactical" knives out there. Why turn a decent office carry into a "tactical" thingy?

Possibly. The last three have each come out a year after the previous one.

I'm in. I love my digi cam black blade pm2, but recently I've been carrying a sage 2 and find it to be a more useful size knife for my every day needs. I like the Sage series but wasn't too wild about the blue g10 or the sage 4, but I would gladly pick back up with a black blade, digi cam and compression lock.

I would love the comp lock on the other side!

hmmpth, tactical sage, not for me. Just get a 1 and get it DLC or cerakoted . or a 3, do the same, and rit dye it

To be honest I'm mystified about where Sal will go next. There really aren't that many popular lock designs out there; the fact that we got a Collins lock was surprising, but maybe it means we'll see stuff like the Paul Pohlman(sp?) lock. There are designers who seem to come up with a new lock every year or two, but none of those really seem to fit the same profile as Collins/Paul, let alone Walker/Reeve locks. (Well, OK, there's a notable exception that's *very* exclusive to a competing mfg...)

The scary thing about the Sage series is how well each lock seems to fit the "chassis" or "platform." This is as close to a universal knife design as any I've seen.

I do sincerly hope it won't be a slipjoint; beyond that I'm ready to be surprised. ^_^

I hope to see some more obscure, interesting locks coming.

+1 on tac sage here :D I just wish they made the blade slightly longer :)

Yep, unfortunately the Sage is too short for me. They need to have a Sage 3.5 :)

There really aren't that many popular lock designs out there; the fact that we got a Collins lock was surprising, but maybe it means we'll see stuff like the Paul Pohlman(sp?) lock. How about a CBBL for all the Manix 2 fans (HA HA). I would actually like to see a micarta handled, compression lock with maybe a Bohler steel? I miss the micarta handles and the N690Co steel.

what if he uses the stop lock?

In-house lock designs are of course a possibility, but it seems like that would be a break for the expressed purpose of the series. I wouldn't complain about another Compression lock/old-skool BBL knife, though.

Getting permission to use a patented lock would add one more obstacle and one more expense. So I expect the Sage 5 will either use one of Spyderco's own patented locks, or a lock on which the patent has expired, as has been the case with Sages 1 through 4. I believe the Paul lock would fall into that category, as would the Crawford lock and possibly the Wm Henry button lock.
