Bushings in Value Line

#1

Post by ccf »

I was looking at the 2012 catalog & noticed the bushings in the Ambitious & Resilience looked different than the bronze bushings in the Persistence & Tenacious.

Does the Ambitious & Resilience use nylon or some other material for their bushings? If so, why the difference? Just curious.

Not sure but bushing choice seems a manufacturing/model call rather than a quality one. The Superhawk/Superleaf comes with nylon and it's a tank.

Thanks. I kinda figured that's what it was, but the Ambitious & Resilience are on opposite ends of the spectrum. It kind of puzzles me why those two use nylon & the other two (closer in size) use bronze.

Also, the info seems to suggest they all use bronze bushings so that was another thing. No biggie. Like I said, just curious.

Anyway, they're all great values in my experience.

Oh I see now. Sorry that response was out in left field, lol. Not sure there honestly...I'm sure it's well executed but the logic escapes me. :confused

No problem. Another thing I noticed is the Ambitious, Persistence, & Resilience us a bigger bushing. The Tenacious bushing is smaller (on both models).

Interesting.

It also may pay to keep in mind that catalog illustrations are not always perfect representations of production knives nor are catalog descriptions. Although the pictures seem to show bronze washers only on the two Tenacious models, the text suggests they all use PB washers, so there's at least a chance that may be the case.

The Persistence shows a bronze washer, as well. The only two that show nylon are the Ambitious & Resilience.

That said, I suspect you might be right. For whatever reason, the pics may not accurately represent the actual models on every detail.

I'd guess that they're interchangeable depending on supply.

Not merely to be pedantic, but aren't they washers, not bushings? I thought washers were "flat", bushings cylindrical. I know, yeah, yeah, washers are "cylindrical" over a short length...

True, but I got tired of correcting people. Thanks for picking up the torch. :)
