Really the Native 5 is an excellent knife.
Excellent.
Of course it's the fifth variation of an already great design.

Tonight, once again, mine passed my bottle butt test with flying colors and when it's dirty after cutting meat, I rinse it under water and it dries in my pocket.
The ergos are spectaculars! Clipless is really another world.
So good, I think this one is also gonna be a great folding companion for the Bushcraft.
So small and so strong. Flawless in his mecanism. Impressive.
The strong spring detent gives a lot of confidence by having your knife in your pocket.
The flat screws smoothing the G10. Oh, this is really addictive to handle ! ;-)

Ok long story short: the Native 5 can be stripped from his clip and it's another experience.
Who else (but Paul The Deacon ! :) ) is daring to strip it ?

Man, that's a little on the heavy side to have flopping around in my pocket. I didn't carry a knife as often as i did when i discovered pocket clips. I do agree, the grip is so much nicer without a clip, but i'd be lost without mine. I also carry around way too much other stuff in my pockets to put a knife in there and let it bounce around (change, iPod etc).

And the op-ed on that is that 105 grams is a bit heavy to be dangling from the lip of your pocket.

Truth is, I can't say I've ever felt a knife flop around in my back pocket, and I've carried a few that were heavier than the Native V, including a 154g Schempp Persian back there. No carry method works for everyone, but loose pocket carry appeals to some and does have certain advantages.

I did try to carry in my back pocket once. The only part that really bothered me was sitting down on it, and depending on the size it can sort of wedge itself horizontally and be stubborn to get out. I've considered making a soft sheath that could clip to my pocket and carry most of my knives, so i can have no clip on my knife itself but still have it easily accessible. I've also tried belt sheaths but they bother me to no end.

I can carry my delica and rescue in my back pocket clipped. Even my dragonfly hurts when I sit. Weird..

A good rule of thumb is to "offer" a pocket for your knife: no change, no keys, no candy. Just your knife.
Also I have found the "closed" construction of the N5 prevent any coin to get inside the handle. (An issue I got with my Sebenzas...
The Native 5 fits perfectly inside the pocket watch.

Also i've been carrying Puma folders much heavier than the N5.
I completly forget than knife.
Also the rounded shape of the closed knife help a lot for pocket carrying. It's not like a candy bar, mure more like an oval. :)

Was there any modification done to your Native5? It seems like your G10 scales were smoothed out a little bit. Very nice. I like it!

I've been EDCing my Delica 4 a lot more than my other knives mostly because it has no clip. I might do the same for some of my other knives that are "Delica size".

I find that a clipless knife is more comfortable, easier to access, doesn't wreck your pants (doesn't help that I wear expensive jeans) and most importantly... easier to access other things in your pockets (keys, ect)

I'm doing the same thing these days DedRok. I somehow managed to strip out the clip screws again, so I figured I'd drop it in my pocket anyway, and see how it carried. Surprisingly, it's rather comfy, and I don't have to worry about scraping my hand when I reach into my pocket to retrieve something. It's a shame I didn't try this years ago.

Nemo stop it, I'm really trying to hold off on the N5 to get the fluted Ti version. And this isn't helping!

Very addictive little strong knife. Very ! :D

I like clipless when using a knife. I started carrying knives using the clip when I started getting Spyderco knives. Then I tried it without the clip. I had gotten used to the clip and then went back to letting it swim in my pocket like I've been used to all my life. I found it much harder to get to the knife and a couple of times there was some lint or dirt or a piece of a sandwich in the lock that made the knife not open correctly. So, even though I love the feel of the knife without a clip when using the knife I keep the clip on and use it in my pocket also. But, some larger knives I don't like in my pocket at all and use a sheath or pouch. I even have a small pouch for small knives like the Delica size. I took the clip off the Manix2 and Gayle Bradley and really love the feel of them without a clip.

I've never removed a clip because it wasn't comfortable to hold when using it. That's one thing I've always noticed because when I first heard of having a clip on the handle I thought it would be uncomfortable to hold but it isn't.

I carry everything clip less or in a belt sheath. Quite often I will carry a Buck 112 loose in my front pocket with no issues.

Ok, today I have put back a Delica black clip on my Native 5
but to use it as a money clip.
Thing I would not do with my Millies...
But the size of the N5 helps a lot.

Also when I want to carry it in my watch pocket, the clip is the best way to secure it.
Anyway, they are hundred way to carry a Spyderco and luckily they are screws when we change our mind.
BTW the Native 5 is also gorgeous with a black clip on.
