Angle Cubes

#1

Post by 1623 »

Hey guys, hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving!

As I prepare to get set up with a sharpening system, I've been considering an angle cube to go with it.

I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who utilize this tool. I'd like to find out how helpful it is, if you find it to be accurate and worth the investment and perhaps some overall thoughts on it as a knife sharpening aid.

Thanks in advance.

Got this exact one from Amazon a few months back. It is an essential part of my sharpening kit. I use a WEPS normally, and Spydie Bench Stones and strops as well.

Using an Edge Pro I can see where it could be a very useful tool. The EP has angle marks and I've checked their accuracy using a round level which is pretty accurate but not even close to the cubes. I'm pretty particular when creating angles and would like an angle cube. The truth though is that if the 18 per side edge is actually 18.5 it won't matter in cutting performance IMO. Still, I'd like to have one and one is on my wish list. Not to mention it is not used just for knife edges. I'm sure it has MANY other uses whenever you need a level. The only negative would be how small they are. Leveling large areas need a longer level. If you have a 2x4 that is really straight I guess you could tie it to the 2x4. Either way I'd like to have one. All of you forum members who were wondering what to get me for Christmas the angle cube is a nice choice. :D

I have the same one that's sold at Lee Valley. I don't know how accurate it is but I use it to set up my angle guide when hand sharpening. A lot of people use an app on their smart phone to get angles but the Angle Cube has magnets. I love magnets :D

Here is a review I posted on Amazon for the iGaging Angle Cube (also have one on WE forum):

I use mine often, and even used it the other day to verify the slope of my roof. :)

FYI if you have an android phone, download the "swiss army knife" app and it has that function.
