Hi All!

I read this forum for a long time and often, at last has decided to write the message. Excuse me for bad knowledge of english language.

My favourite EDC - slightly modded carbon Stretch. "White" clip with black spydie. Not polished, but matte as at a ZDP-189 steel on a knife blade.

Image

I do not understand why Spyderco paints the majority of clips in black color. Why? Shining clip more beautifully also is more practical.
I am am afflicted with that the clip quickly is peeled and becomes ugly. Therefore I have erased a paint. A spydie has left black. So it is pleasant to me much more.

PS My best regards and respect to Glessers. Thanks for your knives. You're the Best.

Welcome!

I suppose the majority of people like black clips. The good thing is the black can always be taken off, but it would be much more difficult to add.

Welcome to the forum Vadel, that clip looks good. I don't have a preference to black or silver clips just depends on the knife.

Welcome! I like the black clips because while I don't want to "conceal" my knife I would rather less people focus on it. We live in a funny time in history :( .

Same here. Although the silver clips may look nice, I prefer to be discrete.

I wish the clip on the forthcoming KW M390/CF Millie was going to be black, but unfortunately it's silver.

I usually wear black or dark colored trousers and the black clip blends in better. Now I wish Spyderco would offer a black wire clip for the Dragonfly for the same reason.

Welcome!
I also prefer black clips because they're more discreet in the pocket. But shiny clips do look better on certain knives. At least it's easy to swap clips for a finish you prefer. I've swapped the clips on all my carry Para 2s to black.

I like black and polished clips, but neither are very practical for every situation. I like my knife to blend in with my clothes so polished is not my thing. I've been doing acid etching on mine to turn them a gray color and that works great to keep it subdued. It's also wearing very nice, the edges are just starting to shine a little bit so it looks "antiqued".

That sounds nice. What do you use to do the acid etching?

Thanks. I was hoping you would say that. I have a bunch of that stuff but I haven't tried using it on anything yet.

I'm actually doing the rest of my Para 2 right now...i worked up the nerve and took the plunge. I'm doing the blade, liners, pins, screws, everything but the lanyard tube since it's aluminum. I'll make a thread when it's finished.

Do you find it difficult to work with Ferric Chloride?

No not really, i don't even wear gloves but i'm super careful not to get it on me. When i did the clip i just soaked it in a plastic bowl, but for the blade and liners i have them stood up in a drinking glass so they don't lay down...i wasn't sure if laying down would give them uneven spots so i wanted them standing up so there's as little contact to them as possible. I took some pics of the process, i'll post those too.

Clip color is not so important to me though I do tend to prefer the darker ones as they don't draw as much attention. Must say your choice for a favorite knife is a great one. I really love my CF ZDP Stretch as well. Use CAUTION, VERY SHARP.

Acetone (AKA nail polish remover) will take the black off but still leave a nice matte finish on the Spyderco "hourglass" clips.

Welcome Vadel, your English is fine. Nowadays, with all the short little abreviations and so-on, most don't even notice. I agree with what most have already said, the black is a bit more discreet and less-shiny. I wouldn't mind seeing more clip choice on some knives. I could see a camo clip for the Camo Military and Para2 as an example. Sometime I wear Camo shorts or pants with a Millie or Para2 and the knife disappears, except for the clip.

Yea, black just is easier to hide, because not everyone needs to know your carrying a knife. Spyderco does make some knives with polished clips and like others said its easier to take off then put on. I polished up my delicas clip a few weeks ago actually. Also some of the higher end spydercos knives come with anodized clips, which last alot longer then the painted ones.
