I would like XHP just as much. I guess it depends where it was made. FYI for those that didn't know, the original titanium ATR was made in golden and used S30V while the steel ATR was made in Seki and used VG-10.

I know this topis has been brought up before.

Abso...blankety-blank...lutely!

I've got nothing against carpenter steel, but i wouldn't mind vg10 or whatever spyderco chooses. They wouldn't use a bad steel.

I know that...... i was thinking that maybe produced in Golden so...we might get a newer steel...

It seems like an appropiate time to make such pleadings to Mr. Glesser....maybe luck will hit us... :D

From what Sal has said, Golden is running at 100% now and that the wait for any new things to come out of there will be years. That is why the Starmate is going to be made in Japan instead of Golden where we all wanted it to be made.

Since this is the realm of the hypothetical ... how much would you pay for this knife? $300? $400? 500?

somewhere between 250-280 would be realistic price....

$300 - $500!!
Outrageous for a knife of standard metals (even 20cp and w/Ti scales).
Not sure about the original Ti version, bu the original SS model had an MSRP of only $169!!...and when actually bought at most stores a person would be paying 20% to 40% less than MSRP.

The Sebenza has such a price.
And I dare to say the Ti ATR is not worse than a Sebbie, on the contrary.

That was what, ten or so years ago? To expect it to cost the same today is not realistic.

I think he was referring to a proposed fluted/textured Ti with 20CP. The original Ti ATR had an MSRP of $329.95, so a $300-500 MSRP wouldn't be out of line considering inflation, the added cost of machining the texture/fluting, and the upgrade in steel.

Brass handle!! ;)

I love Ti but that combo would be insanely pricey. While finding 50 people to dump $300+ on a sprint isn't hard, the extra 550 is tough. My vote would be SS if not brass/bronze.

Id love to have it, but I can't make myself pay that much.

I wouldnt mind a steel re-make with maybe ZDP.

To be honest, the only way I would pick up this sprint is if it is in Titanium. I just don't like the heaviness of the steel handles anymore.

Even Sal would tell us that the Sebenza offers things that Spyderco is not trying to offer, and that these affect price, although it's also true that the ATR offered at least one advantage that no RIL knife can offer, which is the great strength and probably longer wear offered by the truly excellent compression lock. Consider also that while the Sebenza has roughly twenty years of continuous production with only minor changes, the ATR had short and rather limited market life...I think there are conclusions that must be drawn from these things... :spyder:
