Fixed blade or Folder

Since there have been several polls going around this week. I thought I would start one for fun. Fixed blade or Folder. What's your favorite.
Say you have just over 200.00 for a new knife. What do you get? Fixed or folder?

Depends on the task and situation... but in my life I definitely have more call for a folder. Unfortunately... I do love me some FBs...

I have strong preference to folders. I have only two fixed blades and never use any of them.

Fixed blades for scuba diving, bait prep, cleaning fish.

Folders for just about everything else in my life.

My folders get carried and used every day while my fixed blades just hang out, waiting for a rare opportunity to cut something. So my vote went to a folder.

Folder. I'm very very rarely in a situation where i would need a fixed blade. I'm also fascinated about the mechanics of a folder...pivot/lock designs are very interesting to me. The debate about a folder that's as strong as a fixed blade always intrigues me no matter how stupid it is.

I would always take a fixed blade over a folder personally.

I don't carry folders by choice believe me.....

I EDC a folder religiously. But, whenever I'm in the woods (which is as often as possible) I always have a fixed blade. No matter how well built a folder is, it's still a knife with a mechanical weak spot trying to be a fixed blade. But, for the practicalities of EDC, they win out.

Me too, but sadly there aren't enough with good carry opportunities for where I work.... So I went with folder.

Folders for me. I want an easily carried, lightweight knife that does not get in the way.

The fixed blades get less use, but I can't see a Ladybug or D'Fly ZDP being recreated in a fixed blade, then again I can't see the Bushcraft or Temp2 being recreated in a folder. Each has it's own roles.

If I had $200 to spend on knives I'd probably go folder, no, maybe a mule or 2 more, no, maybe a Tuff when it surfaces, no maybe another Bushcraft............................ :)

A full tang fixed blade for me. 3-4 inch, drop point, FFG, choil blade. Removable scales. 1095 Carbon steel. No question warranty.

Wait.. That's a RC-3 or RC-4. Next on my list. Looks like if I had 200 bucks, I could buy both. Or a Izula 2 and a RC-5..

I prefer a fixed blade for hiking, but a folder is much more convenient for everyday use. So I voted folder... even though for $200 I'd get both!

With 200.00 to spend, you really can't get a fixed blade that can be used for every sitsuation that you may encounter. Anyone who has been in the Military or been in a survival sitsuation knows that a fixed blade knife is really going to take a beating. Also, with one exception ( the Randall # 18 attack survival knife ) you would on ly want a full tang knife. When I was in the military, I carried a Randall 18 and it took a beating and never let me down. Held up when even full tang blades failed. If you need a real good survival knife on the cheap, Then the schrade extreame BT301 has proven it's self worthy in the field too.

I carry one of each every day. I am not sure why I carry the folder anymore...It has not cut anything in perhaps a month?

The fixed blade is so much more convenient, far fewer concerns, much easier to clean, faster to get out, faster to put away.

To each, their own...
Thanks,

I just bought two cruwear mules and another M390 mule. It was about 200 total so I guess my answer would be fixed blade. I found a way to carry my mules fairly easily and comfortably now. Thought not the prettiest of ways. It'll do until my skill improves. I try to carry a fixed blade everywhere I legally can. I also carry multiple folders too but if I had to choose between one or the other for the rest of my life it would be fb.
