Spyderco World Trade Center 1044 Clipped To My Pocket

#1

Post by Water Bug »

Fellow Spyderco Brothers and Sisters,

I'm starting early. Tonight I clipped my Spyderco World Trade Center #1044 in the place of honor in my RFP of my jeans. While in uniform, it'll be in the Lower Right Pant Leg Pocket of my Battle Dress Uniform when I'm at work next week. It'll be in those pockets of honor for the next week as we remember the sacrifice and bravery of those we lost on 11 September 2001.

Never Forget!

Ten years later and it's still just as unreal. I recently thumbed through the LIFE hardcover book I have that timelines the entire day with pictures and information. The photographs still remain some of the most powerful I've ever seen.

I worked third shift, so that morning i came home and went to bed as usual. My girlfriend called me hysterical, screaming that terrorists were attacking...i thought she was being stupid and i hung up on her. She immediately called back and told me to turn on the tv, so i did. I sat there on the end of my bed, jaw dropped, for a solid hour.

I was lucky enough to just pick up a WTC knife (0711) the other day. I wasn't into knives when it was released, so I found out about it late. It arrived in the mail a day ago, and I couldn't be happier for the knife, nor sadder for the reason it had to be made. I've been a firefighter for 28 years here in Colorado, a distant cousin lost his life at the WTC. He was with the FDNY. We shall never forget! I will also be at remembrances this weekend and next at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs.

Although I have lived in NYC my entire life I am thankful I did not know anyone personally who was killed that sad day. Unfortunately at the time of the attacks I was young and could not offer my services. That is one thing that to this day still bothers me that I could not have helped...I guess I feel I wanted to personally help in the recovery efforts. But I am proud to say both my father and uncle assisted in those horrible days after of the attacks.

I proudly wear my 9/11 shirts throughout the years and have always wanted a Spyderco WTC D'Allara. I hope to one day find a 9/11 D'Allara and both display and carry it proudly. I recall seeing a Spyderco Rescue with something along the lines of "9/11 American Remembers" or something like that on the blade, but I have never seen them again.

My prayers go out to the families who still struggle with the grief of losing a family member or friend.

I've been carrying #1504 since 9/3, for the reasons noted in this thread.

Lost a young colleague at the WTC that day. Jeff Simpson was an Oracle consultant who split his time between our offices in Troy and 120 Broadway, NYC. He was also a volunteer fireman and EMT. When 120 Broadway was evacuated, he went over to the WTC to see if he could help and was never seen again.

Only a twist of fate kept me from being at, or on my way to, 120 Broadway that day. The development team I was on was scheduled to demonstrate some new software we were developing for one of the agency's Bureaus there but we got a call the day before telling us that the Bureau Chief would not be available, so we rescheduled the trip.

Hard to believe it's been 10 years.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
But forgetting it would be a dishonor to all those who lost their lives.
Let's Never Forget!

Cosmo,

These orange and black Rescue models came to be known as the "Ground Zero" Rescue and were donated to Fire (orange) and Police (black) during the rescue operation by the good people at Spyderco.
Another fine example of why Spyderco is "A cut above"

Carried My D'Allara Rescue all day today, and plan to as I take part in the Firefighter Stair Climb at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, simulating the climb up 110 stories.

Some guys are wearing Full Bunker gear and Carrying SCBAs - Shorts and T-Shirt for me.

There is a saying going around this year, new to me but maybe its been said before:

-THEY CLIMBED, SO WE CLIMB-

Never Forget.
I am a leaf on the wind - watch how I soar.
