I've got an old model dragonfly with the molded plastic clip. Unfortunately, the clip broke off and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. My current plan is to grind down the remaining clip (I already used a small file to remove the jagged parts) and then finish it off with fine-grit sandpaper. I'm not sure it it'll work but it's better than nothing.

After that, however, I'm not sure. I'd prefer a clip, but since this had the molded plastic one, there's no place to bolt a new clip. How hard is it to add one? Is it even possible?

Contact Spyderco W&R. Had that happen on an old Endura several years ago. They cleaned it up and put a metal one on for me.

You can prob get a small barrel clip or one with a large hole and put a nut/bolt through the lanyard hole. I've seen that done with Ladybug's before.

You could grind it and just lanyard it as a free-pocket knife too. Have a reason to get a Dfly2 also.

Just ideas. I'd call W&R if a legit solution is avail.

That's what they did to my old Merlin years ago. The other option is to buy a clip and do it yourself.

I saved an old Endura. I had to use wood screws for the clip to hold.

I contacted spyderco support and it looks $20 + shipping will get it repaired with a metal clip replacement. I should probably just send in all my knives for sharpening at the same time :D

I dont want to hijack a thread, but I have a little question :) . I wanted to change clip position in delica4 and endura4, and while delica went smooth, enduras screws wont move, I managed to move one a bit, but thats it. Its halfway out, wont even go back. No resistance on the torx (size 6). What could cause that? Kneaded (if thats a correct word) screw? Would be strange since I never touched the screws :confused: .

What generation do You have?
If its an Endura 3 you need to counter the screw, two coins on both sides works for me.

If its an Generation 4 (the current version) then You need a Torx 6 for the three torx screws.

If you loosend all three, sometimes You have to lift the clip, as the screws tend to stik in the FRN (but the treads (spelling) go into the steel liners).

Thanks for answer. Its gen 4, SS version, I have torx 6, but I cant move any screw, even the one that is halfway out. I tried moving the clip, nothing. Problem is that the torx cant "catch" any grip. My fingers already hurt :) .

perhaps you stripped it?

DCDesigns, I think I did. I melted a piece of plastic and molded it into the screw; it was stripped. However, I used a little hack saw to cut a line, not too deep, into the screw and it worked. Regular slot type drive fit right in. Its a little brutal, I know, but they must be replaced anyway.

I had the same happen to my 1st generation endura. I've ordered a micro-clip from one of the main knife-parts suppliers, whose name just slipped from my mind. I drilled holes in the frn a fraction smaller than te supplied screws. Screwed it in and voila, a working clip.
If there ever is a next time i would propably go for a genuine spyderco clip...

The molded clip on my D'fly 1 has gotten somewhat bent and loose, so I was thinking of cutting off the clip altogether (probably would worry about a replacement; just use it in the pocket). Does the FRN clean up nicely with fine sandpaper? The Merlin above looks really good, so I guess probably so. Curious to hear from anyone who has done it. Thanks!
