I got lucky and happened to check amazon a while back and found a seller selling their last few Delica trainers for $30. Haven't seen anything that good since, but it's worth checking.

Once I bought 8 Endura Wave trainers on eBay (Poor_Fish) for $8 each.

It's not always a joke. Comedies occasionally have morals. :)

Be careful as that really isn't very safe. Especially if you do any kind of contact training with a partner. Better to invest in good quality training equipment, like dedicated trainers, than to risk serious injury to yourself or someone else.

Stay safe,

The tape can work fine, if you are practicing opening and closing / pocket draw etc. Chris with MBC is accurate with contact drills, though.

I agree that taping the edge is NOT a good idea. I am a fan of MJ and have a basic knowledge of what is needed in a trainer. I have made contact with someone with an endura wave trainer at a reasonable price, so this is the route i am going. Thanks to all who chimed in on my post.

If you were sparring with someone and they contacted the knife's point, they could be killed. No amount of tape will secure the point of the knife, unless you wrap so much around that you might as well remove the blade and replace it with just tape.

The problem is:

1.) Proper taping would increase blade mass and likely prevent it from folding into the handle. If it will fold, don't have enough tape :p .

2.) You are gooing up an perfectly functional knife for training purposes. It makes more sense to have a dedicated trainer so the other knife is useful for something.

I've seen people do flow drills with dulled knives or even live blades if competent. As nearly everyone you encounter is marginal with the blade (on both ends) I wouldn't train with someone who is using a duct taped Delica.

Go to the store and pick up some markers. Cut something out of cardboard. Anything is a better idea.

Even very light wooden and thick wooden trainers bruise and sometimes even draw blood from hands and fingers. I'd hate to think what a taped up knife can do.

Edit: Removed opinions and points as they distracted from the awesome pic of Foam Sword Friday.
