Caly 3 Satin finish?
Caly 3 Satin finish?
I just recieved a Caly 3 and it is a great knife, excellent fit and finish, good ergos and a great look. My only gripe is the mirror finish on the blade, It really is the most smudge attracting knife I own, this will be an edc user for when I am blending in with the sheeple. I am thinking about scotchbriting the blade to a more durable satin finish, but I would like any input from anyone who has tried this (or thought about trying this) thanks for any input... :spyder:

You can give it a brushed finish by using wet/dry sandpaper. Start off with about 320 grit, that should be about all you will need. Make vertical strokes, spine to edge and edge to spine keeping the sandpaper wet so it does not pack up. You can progress up to 400 grit or higher depending on how you want your finish.
Place your sandpaper on a flat board or someother flat surface then just go up and down until you have the desired finish.

How hard is it to take apart? Its got pinned construction, no?dgulbra wrote:Or you could always have it stonewashed
Personally I love the mirror finish on mine, but it is not a user for me, just a flipper. If I was using it I would constantly be wiping it off. I would do the same if I wanted to beat on it a little.

Pivot is a screw, rest of fittings are pins. Blade has no washers, so it's relatively easy to get in and out, assuming reasonable competency with hand tools and a willingness to void one's warranty.WalzAaronFFG wrote:How hard is it to take apart? Its got pinned construction, no?

EDITED TO ADD: Still, not sure how well stone washing, bead blasting, or any other such system would work on the Caly 3, since the 420J2 is considerably softer than the ZDP-189. At the least it would probably accentuate the "hamon-like" look where the ZDP is exposed. Some might consider that a good thing, others not.
