Colored handles
How about this? There has been interest shown in having more choices in handle colors. If Spyderco would make FRN white handles on several models then owners could die the scales whatever color they want. I think this can be done without taking the knives apart. I saw a video of someone dying a yellow FRN knife orange but the steel was H1. That is really unimportant I think because the concern would be soaking the inside of the knife. That also isn't a big deal I don't think because sometimes they get soaked in normal use. The knife just needs to be cleaned/dried and oiled.
I think G-10 can be dyed also so white G-10 would be a consideration as well.
Also, I'd like to have a white handle knife like the Delica one but any color that can be dyed would be good.

There is some threads here that I've read about dying FRN. I'm still on the boat about dying my H1 dragonfly but the yellow is kind of growing on me. Anyway, from what Ive found, you just dunk the handle into the knife or 30 seconds to 30 minutes depending on the color you want. Then just wash the whole knife off and air dry. Make sure the FRN is clean before you start.

I'd like that also but I don't think Spyderco sells just the scales. I think it has to do with the customers taking the knives apart which voids the warranty. They do sell the Delica and Endura replacement parts kits though. The only way to buy the scales for a Delica for instance is to buy them for about $50 from your favorite inet site. Of course they come wrapped around the rest of the knife. :D3Speedyfish3 wrote:I like it, jackknifeh!
Another option would be to sell the white scales, FRN or G10, by themselves. It would allow the owner to customize his knife.

I'd like a white Delica myself. White replacement scales for lots of models would be great for the materials that can be dyed. It seems that lots of people are taking knives apart for one reason or another. I took a Delica4 and a Manix2 apart. One of these days I'll figure out how to get them back together. :D Kidding. I wonder why we can't buy scales along with the Delica and Endura replacement parts kits.Evil D wrote:I would love it if the Delica at least was offered in white as a standard production color. If nothing else, just offer white replacement scales.
I understand Spyderco's (or any company) feeling thay they shouldn't be responsible for warranty repair of a knife that someone took apart. But in the case of the Delica4 and Manix2 I did both with directions or video provided on the computer. Does a set of directions come with the replacement parts kits? It's not that difficult to do this on these two knives. I've assembled children's toys that are more difficult.
I believe lots of customers would be happy about buying scales with directions on how to replace them. Maybe only certain models. Basic directions will do, no need to get expensive for that. Now, would Spyderco be able to make a profit? I don't know but if they just produced an extra percentage of scales per production of a given knife, that may not be too much trouble or expensive. That's for Spyderco to decide. I don't want them to loose money on any endeavour. Also, I'd expect customers to admit they dis-assembled a knife if they ever did and then had to send it to Spyderco for repair. Fair is fair after all.
Kind of off subject. Does the Stretch (blue) come apart and go back together the same as a Delica4? I do not want to take mine apart but in the event I drop it in a mud hole I'd like to know what to expect before I tried. I've been meaning to ask but always forget.
