Feedback on 20CP
My gray para is in, thanks to an awesome forum member who sold me his second after my initial deal didn't pan out.
I rebeveled mine on the edge pro to just under 40 degrees inclusive and I can say that this steel is wear resistant. I would have tried to get it lower but I'd have needed to spend a lot more time on the edge pro. After I finished the whole shebang up to 3000k polish tape, I decided to cut some cardboard. After over 100 cuts it was still pretty much leg hair shaving and I could not see any visible wear on the edge.
After the cardboard cutting, I went back to the sharpmaker to bring it back to a hair whittling edge. For a while, I despaired of getting it back to hair whittling sharp on the SM and I thought I'd have to go back to the edge pro. I did persevere for a while(about 20 minutes) and it was back to hair whittling sharp.
So are you guys using your gray paras? What are your experiences with the 20CP? I'd love to hear about it.
So here are some gratuitous pics.

I really haven't cut anything with mine yet. I told myself I'd figure out if I wanted to keep it for a collector or user and still haven't decided. I have been pretty happy with the S30V one, especially with how easy it is to sharpen.
I really should turn it into a user, though, it is relatively inexpensive and is made out of great materials. It will make a great user!

The gray para would serve either role well, collector or user. :D

Thanks, yes kabayan. As you said, there was one with my name on it. :DBeanie-Bean wrote:Wow...excellent shiny edges on those Para2 blades! Glad you were able to score a 20CP :)

I plan on using mine. There are a few blemishes that made the decision a lot easier. The knife still works great and is super sharp. I can't wait to use it. :DDonut wrote:I really haven't cut anything with mine yet. I told myself I'd figure out if I wanted to keep it for a collector or user and still haven't decided. None of us NEED a steel that could cut through a mile of cardboard and still shave but it would certainly be nice to have!bh49 wrote:I thought that you do not need supersteels anymore

:spyder: All we need to consider is one word EVOLUTION  . . . . New steels that have characteristics, that overcome the steels that already exists
. . . . Cut longer, do not break easy, do not wear easy, sharpen easier and having finer hair popping edges  . . . . That is why we all need today's SUPERSTEELS :) . . . .
That is what i wrote in Chuck's previous thread, but for this thread WELL DONE Chuck very nice SPIDIES with very nice blade matterials too :D . . . . I already own one 20CP, i have it in the box for collection, and i wait another one for EDC . . . . Beautiful edges as always Chuck, tell me the 20CP out of the box was profiled at what angle ? . . . . Did you check that, and is the hair popping edge retention well as VG10 or is it as S30V that have a working edge retention? . . . .

Hey Stak, thanks. The edge bevel angles were at just a little less than 40 degrees inclusive so that when I evened up and polished the bevels at more or less 36 degrees inclusive I just had to remove a minimal amount of metal.
From the little experience I've had, it seems that the hair whittling edge retention is just a bit better than s30v which might be typical of the high vanadium steels. I can say that the steel seems to be an aggressive cutter because it seems to bite much more into my finger tips, even when polished, than say M4.

:spyder: Thanks for the info Chuck :) . . . . You did well first time reprofiling at 36deg and not remove much steel matterial, but are you satisfied or you think that lower angles say 30deg inclusive is better? . . . . I think i will go that low when i receive mine but i do not know the resistance of the steel when i will sharpen the 20CP, so i still wonder  . . . . Nice photo's and nice looking edges.
Mine is a EDC user and it's awesome in that role. I have another one for backup (not for collection, but it will stay unused until I wear out or lose the first one).
I just touched up the factory bevel at ~30 inclusive on the SM and mine seems to be pretty close to 15 degrees per side, perhaps it's a little less because I was hitting the edge pretty quickly. But now I think I'm hitting pretty much the entire bevel on the SM. The factory grind marks are very slowly wearing down as I touch up every couple of days with a few strokes on the SM. It just seems to take a very few strokes to keep the edge shaving sharp and push cutting through paper with very little resistance and no snagging. I don't know about hair whittling though as I don't test for that. :) All I know is that it takes a very fine edge and seems to be very easy to keep this steel extremely sharp on the SM (just using the UF rods as my finest abrasive) and just using the 15 degree slots. This has quickly become my favorite folder.

Oh, I'm sure the 20CP will do quite well at 30 degrees. I think I will take it down to 30 eventually but I was just in a bit of a hurry to get to use it. :DSTAK wrote: :spyder: Thanks for the info Chuck :) . . . . Yep, it is easy to touch it up on the SM. I just had that bit of trouble getting it back to hair whittling after that bout with the cardboard.mongatu wrote:Nice photo's and nice looking edges.

I am using mine. It's just too much of a pleasure using this steel. :D
