Navigator 2 Resurrection

#1

Post by burningpit »

I was wondering if there is any interest in the Spyderco community in resurrecting the Navigator 2 design for a Sprint Run or regular production run. I've always loved the design but wasn't a fan of the stainless steel handles. I was thinking of VG-10 steel, lockback design, G-10 handle and jimping on thumb ramp and finger choil. If not G-10, the acid etched handles would work also. What does everyone else think?

ABSOLUTELY!!!! Im a huge fan of the Navigator. I think the handle ergos are better than the venerable Dfly. I like my SS Navi! But would kill for a G10 version sprint!! Please!!!

Problem with doing G-10 is that it would probably require new tooling for the liners. While that might not be an absolute deal breaker it probably lowers the odds of it happening, especially as a Sprint.

As for me, I'd probably buy one, but only because I have all the other versions. Between the Kiwi and the Chaparral, which I've really come to love in the last few weeks, my small folder needs are well met.

I remember Sal mentioning looking at the Nav pattern again. I wonder if anything ever came of it. It is a great LBK and I'd love to see it in G-10.

I really like the idea of the Navigator but I was not too fond of the previous incarnations that I've owned. I agree that some jimping, G-10, and also tip up carry would go a long way toward updating the design. But the G-10 D-fly is pretty darn close--at least in size and concept.

Im a big fan of the Navi! But Knifewing brings up some good points. I would prefer tip up carry and some jimping. If i had to pick one it would be tip up. I can live without jimping. Dont get me wrong. If they made a G10 exact replica of my SS Navi, i would still buy it, but you know how Spyderco likes CQI!!

We need the Navi back. The handle ergos are the best for an LBK!!
