Cleaning 204 Ceramic

Any tips out there for cleaning your 204 ceramic rods? I have tried several methods and can't find one that is quick and easy. Love that thing-just finished using it to tune up a couple of my prized Spydercos.

I don't know about quick and easy, but I find the way described in the video works fine. Just get some comet and one of those green scouring pads ands just scrub em up good then wash em off.

I use a large pink eraser. Like you used in school. Works great.. and fast and easy and virtually no cleanup

Eraser eh? What a great Idea. That would be alot less messy, plus comet seems to make my hands smell for the rest of the day<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I use an INK eraser when I'm doing my shapening, but still do the comet/ajax path every month or so.

I normally scrub them with Flitz and an old toothbrush. Cleans them up like new!

Actually, better than comet with plastic scrubbers, is using one of those steel wool cleaning pads, like brillo or SOS. Most of them come pre-charged with detergent, but if not, just add some comet. This definitely works better than using plastic scrubbers.

Now I know what you're thinking. "Joe, you dope," you say to yourself, "when you use steel wool on the ceramic stones, the stones will cut the steel wool and your stones will fill up with metal even more!" Au contraire, mon freir! For whatever reason, steel wool PLUS DETERGENT not only cleans the ceramic stones, but cleans them faster than any other method I've tried.

My personal favorite is a good shot of Bar Keeper's Friend on an old scouring sponge. Works every time, at most two passes are needed.

Just a thought, but ive had good sucess using wd-40 and a soft rag on my ceramic crock sticks, i just sray it on and let it set for a few then wipe it off, gets mine squeaky clean.
