Are these people stupid or what?

Associated Press:

SHABQADAR, Pakistan – A pair of suicide bombers attacked recruits leaving a paramilitary training center in Pakistan on Friday, killing 80 people in the first retaliation for the killing of Osama bin Laden by American commandos. The Taliban claimed responsibility, blaming the Pakistani military for failing to stop the U.S. raid.

Me:
If we are the Taliban's enemy wouldn't that make Pakistan their allies if Pakistan were hiding or protecting Bin Laden? So they kill 80 of their allies. Maybe I'm the stupid one but I sure don't get it. I might even worry about myself if I ever do start understanding the thinking in the middle east. I know it goes back thousands of years but come on! Can't they just STOP shooting?

Jack,

Stupid? Yes.

The Taliban were trained by the Pakistanis before they took over Afghanistan but for some years now they have sought to overthrow the Pakistani government. They have many allies inside and outside of government and their war with Pakistan seems to stop and start erratically.

The fact the Pakistan is building lots of nuclear weapons and that longterm US interests lie with their great enemy, India, makes it even more confusing.

Ehh...stupid people are everywhere...but in this case there are probably so many convoluted processes going on, and such different philosophy/frame of mind/decision making/mode of operation that I suggest that perhaps no one here is even qualified to gauge how brilliant or stupid these people really are.

From where I sit and with the values I hold on various ideas/human life/etc. These Taliban operators are totally defective...but it is probably wrong to apply my paradigms while judging their actions.

One thing is for sure, their actions get attention...and perhaps that is how they gauge success.

All through history, the "other side of the fence" appeared irrational or idiotic (at least to some degree)...and history books generally are written that way (by the winners)...the reality likely is that the "idiotic" side probably felt totally justified at the time, but history failed to understand their motives because they lost...and their "logic" died with them.

This is why I feel it is so important for us to triumph over the Taliban...I really do not want to go down in history as one of the idiots! :)

Critical thinking is in short supply all over the world. e.g., conspiracy theories.

As far as suicide bombers go, "depressed" is a much better description. As a former president just said in an interview, "It is only when you do not have hope in a society that you join a suicide bomber team."

The CIA, ISI and Osama all worked together. Visit your library. The target are the xenophobic Afgan mountain tribes. I put together a page a while back ...

So, the Freemasons control everything and they are controlled by the Jesuits. Interesting site, but you were a little late coming in after the conspiracy theories post.

edit: Bingo, you have to get down a ways on the main page to get to the purity of the white race stuff. There are so many conspiracy theories it's overwhelming.

If you fold a dollar bill the right way it shows Obama stirring a witches cauldron.

Anyways, to answer your question: People are stupid (not just those ones). ;)

People and the whole human race really amaze me sometimes with the level of stupidity. I'm not excluding myself from the group. I have my stupid moments, I just hope I don't hurt anyone when I'm behaving at full stupid. But then the very next day we can show caring and compassion that is just as amazing. I doubt if we will ever really change. We've been this way for a long time.

Sadly... these people aren't stupid. I wish that they were. They frighten and intimidate people into doing what they wish or passively supporting them. Why do you think that the Pakistani government immediately spoke out AGAINST the operation that killed Osama? For all we know, they supported it whole heartedly. It only makes sense to present the public with ambivalence or outrage over the incident in an effort to forestall just this sort of incident. If that is the case... it would appear to have been an unsuccessful effort. IMHO, that region is widely criticized for embracing the culture of the terrorist when it SHOULD be widely criticized for embracing the culture of the terrified. I could rant about this (well... have ranted :-P, in reality), but to do so would probably be boring, irritating, and political... three things I try hard not to be :) .

Intensely intriguing...
That stripe of 'rant' is a fresh perspective for me, and thanks - Bruce / SB
