Are there any plans to come out with a matriarch trainer. If i am not mistaken the matriarch and the endura share the same handle so it would only require that a training blade be manufactured to fit to the existing endura trainer handle. This knife needs a trainer to get the most out of its design as this type of blade can perform defensive actions that straight blades cannot.

Paul,
At one point in time there was talk of a Civilian Trainer, but don't know what happened with those plans. There definitely is a good number of people who would be interested in a trainer for either the Civilian or the Matriarch. Since the the blade shape operates in two planes at once, a trainer is needed to see what you can get away with and what you can't. Some techniques and flows used with regular staight blades will get you hooked.

Dear Paul:
I don't know of any plans to make a Matriarch trainer. In fact, rumor has it that after the end of the year, Spyderco will only produce trainers of its dedicated MBC designs and the Delica and Endura trainers will ultimately go away. Again, this is just a rumor...
Stay safe,

Here's another vote for the Matriarch trainer, which would be easier and require less investment to be made, since it'd use the same red handle as the Endura trainers, yet still be more than good enough for those carrying Civilians.
Mike Sastre is right about the unique characteristics of those hawksbill blades, and how they make a trainer even more necessary. Wish I had watched Keating's Civilian video before I started doing solo drills with my then-brand new Matriarch a couple years ago - would have saved me some pain and bleeding, not to mention the trip to the ER for stitches.
