Lockinsert on fluted ti mili

This is a question for anyone on the spyderco crew. As most know the collectors club edition fluted ti millies have no steel lock insert. We were told that both the normal titanium military model (which current does have insert) and the fluted production version will to. So will they have them?

I was curious myself. I preordered one a while ago. I'll be happy either way though.

If I had to guess, I'd vote no. It was not common until now that the CC numbered knives differed from the non-etched ones, since they all came out of the first batch (the smallest ones I know of consist of 400-600 pieces). I don't think that changed... one important reason of being a member of the CC after all is that you get the new models first... not actually getting a "Different version" of a knife.... at least that's my understanding ;) I know at least _I_ would be upset getting a different, in some eyes even "inferior" version of a knife than all others not in the CC.

What happened before though is that later batches of the same knife changed a little (TI Millie (steel insert), Bradley with lighter liners to name a few). Maybe the change will come when they make more of them.

Maybe I am completely wrong though; as you suggested, only a Spyderco member can answer for sure.

Just got mine today.
It is not a CC #'d knife.
It does not have the lock bar insert.
It is however a sweet knife!

It is a pity that the Fluted Millie is without a lock insert . I hope that the Tuff will have a steel insert .I hope it is as close as can be to the proto otherwise I won't buy it. Mr Schempp please make the Tuff a really tough and cool knife !

I got my fluted Ti Military yesterday (not CC) and it does not have the lock bar insert. It is a super nice knife.

Yes it is. That's interesting - that's the first run if it has no insert.

Hmmm...I think it's time for me to cancel my pre-order.

The first run of the Fluted Ti Millie did not have the lock bar insert. As most of you are aware, titanium is difficult to work with and production of the Ti models takes longer than that of other models. The parts for the first run (less than 200) were cut prior to the CQI (Constant Quality Improvement) decision to add the lock bar insert.

Given the small number produced without the lock bar insert and the very large number in demand, more than likely those without it will be more collectible in the years to come.

Hope this information helps.

Thank you Kristi, icing on the cake! Mine arrived today, wow the coloring is fantastic, reminds me of the colors in ancient glass. Oh, and no insert either. :D

I don't think the insert is necessary. I can't see anyone beating up a fluted, colored titanium knife. Titanium is pretty tough stuff. :)

I ordered and received the Spyderco Ti-Mil Fluted Military on Wednesday from a most outstanding knife store. In fact, I'm EDCing it as I type. A most outstanding piece!

And, no, mine does not have the lock bar insert, and that's fine with me. None of Chris Reeve's titanium RIL framelocks have such an insert and they all work just fine... and, I'd dare say that all of the versions of the Ti Millies that have come out without lock bar inserts will work just as fine as well.

The lock bar insert is a nice addition... however, lacking such an item in no way makes the knife inferior.

My thoughts exactly.

I have had my Military Fluted Ti for about a week now; My standard process is to wipe it down with a Tuffglide Tuff cloth and lube the pivot point and lockbar detent.
Much to my surprise the coloring on the handle wiped off! Continued handling rubbed of more color?
Anyone else experience this? :spyder: :spyder:

Pre-order revoked. I am not going anywhere near this one until the 200 go through the system. Knife dealers don't tend to specify things of that detail...

The blueing being rubbed off is also a bit worrying. I wonder if some sort of finishing coat can be put over the titanium to protect the finish even if it does change grip dynamics.

Such a weird idea to do a mili with blueish stuff on it... looks like a gold coated limo Hummer :-/

I did the same, but I will be buying one for sure once the lock bar inserts come out.

Yeah agree. I know this would never be a user but I would hate it to wear out too quickly. I will wait another few months before ordering.
