Paramilitary 2 full black?
I noticed that this model has been taken off the site and I remember hearing that people were displeased with the fact that it wasn't completely blacked out. Is the para 2 in full black being rereleased? Sorry of this has been asked before I just really wanna get my hands on this model fully blacked out.
My guess would be no. The DLC coating on the blade seemed to be short of satisfactory, so I imagine they're working on that. None of the pm2 black blades are fully blacked out, and unless Sal chimes in here and says otherwise, I don't believe they ever will be. Still a great blade though. Sorry...

****... Alright. I guess I'll have to settle for the vanilla model. Thanks for the info.pmbspyder wrote:My guess would be no. I'm guessing many of these will pop up at the factory seconds sale later this year.

The blade on the Para 2 is a grey color that is slightly reflective. Not a big deal unless you wanted a flat black, which the Para 2 was not.
I called Spyderco shortly after I got mone and they said it should be the same as the Military and told me to send it in. Haven't gotten around to sending it in yet.

Huh?! Mine isn't completely jet black. Rather it has an almost gray appearance like the mil-spec coatings on AR-15 mags. I like it. The only true black coatings I've seen were on the manix 2.cckw wrote:there were guys on the forums bent out of shape that the blade was an off shade rather then true flat black. I don't remember what tint it had. But it turns out that the color burns your coronaries if you look straight at it long enough.

When I got mine about a month ago I compared it to a Military and it was a bit lighter but definitely not grey.

Ok good. I thought the defect was in the strength of the coating, not the color. I bought mine in person so the color was no surprise. I actually like it better than true jet black.pmbspyder wrote:your knife will be fine. it was only the all black pm2s that had problems.
But, I am very glad to hear it was just a cosmetic issue. I bought the coated version only because DLC is so tough. It being defective would've been a big disappointment. :)
I think its only an issue for those that do not use the knife and want a pretty black coating all year round.
I do not have one DLC coated knife that has a factory finish on it anymore. They are all scraped and blemished. Never an issue with the protective qualities.
Unless you gouge into the steel, the DLC will always be present.

I posted this in another thread that also had some misinformation about the black bladed Para2. I just want to be sure everyone is clear on the status.
The black bladed Para2 is not now nor has it ever been "pulled" from the line up. It is live on our site right now and has been. There may have been a time when it was unavailable but that is only due to it being back ordered.
The DLC coating process is one that does have variations in the finished product. We've seen variations as described in the Military model, the original Para Military, the Native and the Manix2.
For those of you who don't know, my "day job" with Spyderco is handling our Military/Government business. These models (including the black bladed Para2) are currently being used by military personnel and various levels of law enforcement. These are people for whom light discipline is a critical concern. I can honestly say that I have not had one complaint.
We haven't stopped production in any way. The Para2 (in all offered configurations) has been in almost a constant state of back order due to the demand and the high volume of pre-orders that we received when the model was announced. So any inventory issues that are being seen are simply due to the high demand for the knife.

That's ok by me. I avoid coated blades anyway.
