Bigger Kiwi (4?) Poll- Help Sal Out
Time to discuss grind and tip details:
Full flat grind and notched spine makes for a very thin blade at the tip.
I thought about making the blade stock thinner, especially if the design is larger and clipless, light weight will be important.
Thinner stock and hollow makes for a very thin tip...thoughts?

Sal, when you say very thin blade tip, are you thinking thin like the Chokwe or upcoming Des Horn? Because I would welcome very thin tips like those.sal wrote:Time to discuss grind and tip details:

I would stay true to the kiwi's original design, especially with the grind. everything and its mother is ffg these days. your feedback to the forums is awesome, and the fact you take our opinion into consideration is one of the reasons why i buy spyderco exclusively; on the larger kiwi issue, i defer to your genius. every forumite wants something different; if you just build it, they will come!sal wrote:Time to discuss grind and tip details:

I was happy with the results since they were in favour with what I wanted, but forum polls usually are not very accurate or scientific. I would like to say "Sal, the poll speaks for itself" but we don't know what method they use to determine the characteristics of a knife before it gets into production.MCM wrote:Folks voted "Bolsters, double"
Not sure how light it would be?
poll results:
Spine notched like the original Kiwi
Bolsters, double
Flat Ground
Okay with a removable clip

That's what i'm sayin...just do what's necessary to change the design just barely enough to make it bigger...such as make the finger choils the appropriate size, and leave the rest as it is.gull wing wrote:Seems like this could be the same knife, only bigger. I don't know?
I really can't see this knife being FFG and having a notched blade...the tip would be so thin and fragile, i probably wouldn't buy or use it. I think once you lose the notch, this becomes another knife altogether and loses the Kiwi identity.
