Can`t help it

#1

Post by DiKa »

Hi guys. I`m a huge fun of Spyderco, and have been using Police as an EDC for many years. For the last year I started collecting spydies and got addicted to looking for the ones I love and buying them. I managed to spend over a thousand dollars only for the past month. Since I don`t have any friends who share my enthusiasm in this area (especially the wife), can anybody tell me if this is normal.

My :spyder:
Police (PE, SE, G-10), Shabaria, Civilian, Delica white and black FRN, Endura white and black FRN, GB CF, Stretch CE black, Paramilitary II, Tenacious, Persian Red, Zowada, Ladybug Yellow hawkbill salt.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome. Yes it is normal. This is the place we come for therapy and to see we are not alone. I like many makers but Spyderco is my favorite. Take care.

$1,000 a month does seem pretty steep. I'd probably get that checked out. :)

Hi DiKa,
Buy a one or two Spydies, maybe a Tenacious or an Ambitious and give one to a friend.....get them started down the Spyderco road.... It's win win, they'll love the crazy sharp blade, they wont stop flicking it & they won't leave the house without it :) Bam! instant knife bro :D

I'm right there with you and I'll continue to spend my money as long as they keep making cool sprint runs and cool knives in general. I've sold off most of my other knives made by other companies because they just don't do anything for me anymore now that I've realized that Spyderco is the best, by far. There are a couple companies out there that are still making stuff I like but no other company comes close to Spyderco, for me.

Hi Dika,
I wish that was all I spent on Spydies in the last month!
I don't think it is normal to the non knife community, but
most Knife Guys, wouldn't bat an Eye hearing that!!!
Relax, Your perfectly normal to Me. :spyder:

It is perfectly normal. Just give your new addiction a little time. Most likely spending will go down a little, acceptance among friend and family will go up.

DiKA, can I ask where are you buying knives? In general the online retailers that I deal with here in Canada have fairly good prices. You have to recognize that they also eliminate the risk of getting a knife accross the border so some premium is expected.

$1000 a month is not a problem if you can afford it. It is all relative.

For mid priced Spydies at retail sites, that's about 10-12 knives. TOTALLY acceptable.... I'm all about ordering another before my previous orders arrive LMAO... So what my family will be homeless and hungry... With my spydies I will build a house and hunt our dinner!

Thanks for the support guys.
RAZORSHARP - Delica is $80. I buy my knives at a dealer that I was dealing with for many years. I find his prices very reasonable and sometimes lower than ebay's.
I would highly recommend to check out http://www.warriorsandwonders.com. These guys have knives that are sold out in most of the stores.
BTW, can't find a Massad Ayoob anywhere. Anyone has a hint where to find one?

Normal is just culturally average behavior. Being that your being consoled by a group of obsessive hobbyists consider the diagnosis.

In my opinion your completely sane. *struggles in sleeveless jacket*

Jokes aside. It should slow a bit. At least chances are you can recoup 60-200% of your money over time. I see them as a Gov bond with a crappy return. Then again, most Spydies pummel bonds over even short durations ;) .
