How Many Carry Neck Knives?

#1

Post by buddy54ck »

:spyder: :spyder:

Hi All,
I was wondering how many people carry neck Knives, particulary,a Spyderco, (but it doesn't have to be) in a Kydex Sheath, with a ball chain? Which knife would that be and why? Why or why not would You carry a neck knife?
Thanks in advance for Your replies!
Have a Great Day!
Charlie

DH carries a CRKT minimalist in kydex. I don't carry a neck knife though as anatomy tends to get in the way and I tuck in my shirts.

I love, use and regularly carry neck knives. I recently wrote an article for the Oregon Knife Collectors Association about the convenience, use and superiority of neck knives on mountain trails while back packing. Definitely the "right tool for the job."

I have a couple of Spots that regularly make it in my EDC rotation.

Can't stand the idea of something metal & heavy hanging round my neck, so never wear a neck knife of any description ... knives are what trouser pockets were designed for ... unless I wasn't wearing trousers ... now there's a thought ... a neck knife might be the only option if you visit a nudist colony! :D

I have an izula 2 in the mail coming to soon hopefully from knivesshipfree. Might be carrying it as a neck knife but I bought it for trout fishing so it could work better on the shoulder of my waders. We'll have to see about this one.

I guess I technically carry a neck knife (Izula), but never carry it around my neck. The stock sheath is too bulky for me to carry it on my neck. So, into my left front pocket it goes.

Hi Sithus1966,
Can I ask where You purchaced the Kydex sheath for Your neck knife? Do You have any problems with retention, especially if You are jumping, also how much did You pay?
Thanks so much,
Charlie

I got it off ebay for $35 + $3 shipping. I have not had any retention problems, but it is only a week old. The seller makes them quite well and it's a pretty good fit and finish. Sellers handle is tick18.

Emerson La Griffe and HAK (Hideaway Knife).

But neck carry is not always practical for me, so for both knives, I had kydex sheaths made for belt carry and find I often opt for this mode to wearing around my neck.

I carry a nylon creel with me when I fish, and clip a Leatherman Wave on the inside lip of the main compartment. I use the Wave pocket clip, but for something like the Izula, you could probably do something similar with a Spyderco G-clip.

Been carrying a Boker Gnome for the last few weeks. Yesterday I was in the garage trying to come up with a new sheath for my Swick 2 for neck carry as the last one I made was a bit bulky.

Was curious if people use ball chain or paracord for their neck carries.

Instead of a ball chain, has anyone tried paracord with a piece of flexible plastic tubing as a lock? If you get hung up on something the tube will release one end of the cord.

Yes, a piece of plastic tube from a ballpoint.
But you have to use a bit of superglue.

I always carry a necker.
A Izula or a Viking style women knife that I got from Afred Dobner in a trade for a piece of ti.

Or a Pikal, made by Deviant11 blades, aka Filip de Leeuw, from Belgium.
