Good deals for handgun ammo?

#1

Post by NexusS »

I bought a new Glock 27 4th gen last week. ammo for .40 cal is kinda high. Its around $20 a box/50 rounds for .40 caliber. I bought Winchester 165 grain FMJ/100 rounds on sale last week for $34.99 at Cabelas. I went through it in less than a half hour :( So where do you guys find cheaper ammo? Maybe even online? Before last week, I havent bought any handgun ammo in a while, probably 10 years. Prices seem alot higher now than back then. I remember 9mm being less than $10 a box. I even bought a case of Winchester 9mm white box/500 rounds for $70 back then from the local gunshop. Now the price seems to of nearly doubled for 9mm. I would like to go to the gun range this weekend

I bought a pistol a few years ago and searched for inexpensive ammo. Here is a site I found. Don't remember anything about it. It is just still in my favorites. I did buy some cheap stuff but always worried about cheap ammo. Faulty ammo could cause damage/injuries I always thought.

I've always liked ammo engine.

You can pick what caliber you are looking for and it will show you total price plus price per round for many suppliers.

+1 on Walmart. The federal stuff is good and so is the WWB 100 packs. The yellow UMC mega packs I've never had a problem with.

This.

I make .45ACP (cast my own boolits too) for $4 per 50. 9x19mm costs me $3.50 per 50. I easily make 100 rounds in 10 minutes.

Try ammoman.com he ships free and no tax. The true cost is per round and many people do not include the cost of shipping in the total cost foreach round.

Ditto. Great service, too. But, I also buy FMJ range ammo at Walmart when they have it.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I will really have to consider reloading if I want to really save some money. $4 for 50 rounds is unreal. about how much would a basic setup cost? But I dont think I would want to cast my own bullets.

You can get started in the game for under $150 in equipment - that will be a big trade off, and you will spend a LOT of time making ammo (and not getting many cartridges out of your time).

The best compromise that I have found for a new loader as far as a press goes, is the Lee Turret unit.

This thread is a decade old, no need to bring it back from the dead. Current reality does not resemble that of 10 ten years ago.
