The Delica is an all time favorite and one of the biggest sellers for Spyderco. It is produced with a plain edge, combo edge and full serrated. The combo version is also available with a black blade.

I'm puzzeled as to why there is no black plain edge available in what is arguably Spydie's most popular knife? I read somewhere the the Delica was produced with a plain edged blade in black some years ago.

For me, I hope they add it to their lineup in the near future. Also, a British racing green FRN grip, Green Foliage and Grey would be great, too. Just thinking out loud. Anyone else... ? :D

I've wondered the same thing. I'd love to see a black DLC plain edge FFG Delica.

Heck, i've also daydreamed about a DLC Caly 3 or 3.5 for a while now...that'd be sweet too.

If you take into consideration all the possible variants/combos of grind/handle color/coating/edge, you will end up with literally thousands of different configurations (For a REALLY exotic iteration see pic below). Spyderco can only produce so much versions of the Delica/Endura, and they decided to go with the CE edge for the TiCN coated model.

Why did they decide to go with CE instead of PE? Only the Spderco R&D could answer this question for sure. Would a PE version have sold better? Who knows. Will they make a coated PE D/E4 someday? Maybe. I agree it would be a nice knife though.
I own two of these black CE Enduras (one EDC (see pic), one backup), and I find it a pretty cool blade. Granted, you will never ever satisfy ALL customers, but they are trying :)

Its possible they went with combo because the blacked out blades are a good seller for the armed forces, police, etc. And maybe the armed forces and others wanted combo to have the benefit of serrated but also the benefit of plain.

My gues is this: Delica is at the low end of the price range. So due to the percentage of te knife price that would be for black coating it may appear to be the wrong place to add a new sku. That is what I would say if I were in a meeting where it was discussed. They would want to do that one like the other Spydercos, not the cheaper option like the Byrds.

These thoughts crossed my mind, too. And guess what: even as (the only) EDC for civilians, it makes much sense. At least for the Endura where the PE part is long enough for most tasks where PE is needed.

There were the early black blade in the 90s and green handled one.

I have Delica serrated from 90s and combo in racing green handle.

That all black Endura is awesome! Coated plain edge enduras and delicas would be sweet, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. :)

I hadn't thought of that. That may be part of the answer, it makes sense to me. The other part I'm sure has to do with marketing in some way. Thanks!

At least they came out with FFG which is a great option. :spyder:

I'd buy a PE black coated Endura in a heartbeat. Imagine a FRN flat dark earth endura with a black blade...perfection!
