Delica Wave

#1

Post by JEFF B »

Can anyone give me a quick description of the proper way to use a waved knife. I have quite a few spydies, but none with this feature. I just bought a Delica wave but don't seem to have the knack yet. Is the idea to catch the pocket and partialy open it, or whip it out and fully open it. Cool blade though, blue FRN plain edge. Sorry if this is a rookie question, but i gotta ask. Might save me from cut fingers or slice and diced jeans.I don't see many for sale other than online, and i was at a hunting and fishing show today and they had one so i grabbed it.

There's plenty of YouTube videos out there but you basically just drag the wave over the edge of your pocket as you take it out - snapping the blade open in the process :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

You want to open it with enough force to fully open the knife. Might be a little be easier than trying to explain if you just go to YouTube and search for a video.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Not sure that I would describe opening a waved knife with the term "with enough force" because that seems to imply that it can't be done slowly and even gently -- but it can.

"With enough force" could encourage a novice to use too much speed and power -- more than is necessary, and enough to be dangerous.

Like anything else, I would recommend starting with the correct motion and doing it slowly and gently, getting the technique right before adding speed and power.
