FRN Lockback Tenacious

#1

Post by tomcrx »

I was helping a fiend put a new roof on his garage and we were jabbering about knives. We talked about the new FRN models coming out from Spyderco and we both agree this is the one we would want if we could have any.

Both of us love the ergos of the Tenacious, love the weight and slimness of FRN models and the ambidextrous nature and security of lockbacks.

How about it Sal make it in GIN-1, VG-10 or 154CM. I know you would at least sell 4 :)

Sounds a lot like a Delica 4 or Native to me...

I assume you mean you want those at the same price point right?

Because otherwise you could be getting something else.

The Tenacious would need a complete redesign to become a mid lock knife. It would really be a new model. Price point would probably be way higher, especially with the steels you mentioned. Molds for the handle are quite expensive and investing the money in what would be an unproven design doesn't seem likely.

Not really. The Tenacious is substantially bigger and a completely different design than either mentioned.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Probably not going to happen anytime soon. Between the cost of the FRN mold and the upgrade in steel the price would likely be over what a delica will cost you now.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Closest will probably be the FRN Manix 2.

If it prices at the level of other FRN models...Endura, Manix ...that would be fine. It could even be pinned construction. I really like the Tenacious ergos. Just putting the idea out there :)

Built in Seki, with VG-10, I will guess you would be in the $80 ballpark for what you described.

The Stretch is as close as you are likely to get.

What you're proposing would be a knife that cost as much as a Delica with inferior ergos.

I find the ergos of the whole Tenacious line to be better than the Delica. I owned a Delica for 24 hours, took it back. I do wish that Sal and gang would do something with the blade shapes from the Tenacious line with a slightly better steel and materials.

Didn't Sal mention a while back, that they had a tenacious with a steel upgrade in the works?

I think that it was mentioned that he wanted to use the 9mov...but that the maker said it was too hard to work with.

Maybe we can get one with the blade made out of butter, then. (Where's the evil smiley?!)
