Hey Soviet :
I'm gettin' one in August from GlassHartt <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
( GlassHartt@aol.com ). The difference between the matriarch & the civilian is
blade length ( civilian approx. 4" matriarch
approx. 3.5" ) and handle material ( civilian
G-10, matriarch FRN ) <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
"...and let him that has no sword sell his robe and buy one..." Luke 22:36 <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
ATE <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Soviet,
The Matriarch is advertised as a smaller lighter version of the Civilian with the same design philosophy. The handle is FRN instead of the Al/Kraton or G-10 of the Civilian. The clip for the Matriarch is also advertised as being reversible and ambidextorous. As to the smaller - The civilian is larger in blade length, closed length, and LOA.
Specific dimensions are in the 2002 PDF or on line at the SFO site. Hope this helps.
