Hi Pinetree,

I appreciate the quick response and I'm probably the only mod on today. So I think you two will have to choose which one to keep. Thanx much.

Option 'A', for sure.

Definitely not a 'chopper' though.

Spirit of the Chinook III on steroids, is where its at. Say, with heavy work in mind, but, a blade shape that would also serve in an Martial BladeCraft role.

Hi Sal,

Shame Pinetree and I overlapped. He was first to post the poll so it only seems fair that my thread is deleted/closed.

If that is the case, it might be worth adding some clarification to his poll, to explain that we are gathering opinions with a view to a possible future model. A link to the original thread might be useful, too.

Happy New Year,

I've deleted the other Poll thread. (At the time of closing the thread, 20 votes cast: 75% had voted A, 5% for B and 20% for C.)

I voted A. Anything in the neighborhood of 5 inches, i'm going to assume it's going to have some weight to it, and i'm gonna want it to be as beefy as possible. There's already the Military/Police for large folder slicing. If you're gonna build a big knife, build it big all around.

Option A for me. Any thin, slicing, large folder needs for me can be handled by the resilience.

i kinda lean twords a heavy duty folder in the 3.5" to 4.5" range. really think anything much bigger that a 4.5 would be something too big and heavy to want to carry often. strider sng like. which i think is a tad under 4" perfect. anything much bigger and id probubly start looking at fixed blade options. at 6" your going to be putting allot more stresses on the lock and pivot, making a massive pivot a must and then the weight penalty/ theres some like that out there, and i dont see them as an edc knife. i dont see them as something comfortable in the pocket at 5 or 6" . A slicer that size can be reasonable comfortable to carry, take the police3, thin and relatively light its not much bigger than an endura as far as what it feels like in the pocket.
my knives:
kershaw Leek Buck 119 Cold Steel Recon tanto
Cold Steel Ti Lite VI ,
Spyderco: Tenacious ,Persistence, Endura 4 blue Stretch zdp blue, Manix 2 ,Native s30v . Sage2 titanium, Gayle Bradly cpm m4, Muleteam mt 10, woodcraft mule s30v. Orange Delica 4
Bark River PSK 154cm, Gunny, Bravo 2, Canadian Special

We need a "I just want something over 5 inches" option. I love my ZT's, I love my Mili.
What currently does not exist on the market (or is ridiculously hard to acquire) is a large, high end folder that uses premium materials.
That it be made by Spyderco is only icing on the cake.

I voted C, but would be interested in looking at whatever Spyderco turns out.

I found after a little while with the forester that it was to big and heavy for comfort, and paradoxically found that for me the handle on the Milli just didn't feel right for me.

A 5"+ beefy folder would probably be heavy and the easy carry advantages of a folder might be lost.

I will be looking at whatever starts percolating.

I voted "Blade under 6" - light, large folding slicer"

But would rather vote for a medium duty 5.5" blade.

It seems there is nothing in-between a Chopper and a Chokwe here.

It would be nice to keep it under 1 1/2" wide and 1/2" thick.

Just my opinion

Thanx Xavierdoc. Anyone who posted on Xavierdoc's poll, would you please revote on Pintree's poll.

I appreciate the behavior of the formites here, especially in solving problems without moderaters.

I'm not a big blade fan, but if I did get one it would be for camping and such and would want big and beefy...like a big manix2.

I voted for the sub-6" slicer, but this poll is running 2:1 in favor of the heavier knife. It is fascinating to read Sal's posts describing his thinking about meeting the challenges inherent in a "hard-use folder."

Whatever comes out of this process will be interesting, and I feel a step forward for the industry.

Agree 100% and will pickup whatever large folder is produced.
Also think huge heavy duty, "heavy" folders would be seldom if ever used or carried.

I voted for C as well. I can't see myself carrying around a large "heavy" folder which would limit its use for me. I'm more of a chokwe fan - light super slicer. I'm more likely to carry it if it's not too cumbersome.

My vote is in. "C" all the way, though I'd like to see the Szabo before I really ask that anything else be developed. That seems to fit most of what I'm looking for.

I went ahead and voted "A". It's clear at this point which option the average person prefers.
Much as I like a light knife, extra weight doesn't bother me either. Spyderco is pretty good about doing FFG sprints too (and with super steel).

I just need two things to ensure that I can get, and will use the knife.
1. It needs an adjustable pivot.
2. No re-curves. I have a ton of those already, they are a pain to sharpen.
