Just thought I'd keep track of the factory seconds I've seen sold on Ebay.

I bought my factory second Manix 2 154 CM Black G10 for $ 40. Seemed like a good deal to me.

That reminds me of an article I read recently: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/de ... y-auctions

Cliffnotes:
--Record company sells "sprint runs" of records in the realm of 100-300 per run.
--They're very popular, so the company limits the number each person can buy to prevent people from buying them just to resell them.
--Profiteers hire people to purchase more for them to get around the rule, and then they put them up on eBay.
--Company decides to get rid of the profiteers by putting them up on eBay itself.
--Customers complain.

I wonder what would happen if Spyderco put their whole sprint runs and factory seconds on eBay. The prices on eBay now are a lot higher than the price from dealers and from the factory seconds sale, but part of that is not a ton of them make it to eBay. If the full 700 of the S90V PM went to eBay, for instance, I bet they wouldn't sell for $300+ each, but I also bet Spyderco would make more per knife than they do with sprints selling them to dealers and with seconds at the yearly sale. It cuts out the two middle men, dealers and eBay resellers, though it adds in eBay's fees. Maybe I'm wrong. It'd be interesting to see what would happen.

The reason I love 2nds is that I like to try out all my Spydies. 2nds are great users because the lower investment allows you to buy and try more models and the resale value doesn't suffer that much from light use should I eventually part ways with some of them.

I've some NIB Spydies that I'm afraid to use because of the resulting drop in value.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

While I don't have a problem with any of the posts here can we just keep it on topic? My intention in starting this thread was just to have a point of reference.

Heh...
I wanted one of each when at "normal" prices. I don't care to pay triple pricing for a knife that Spyderco deemed not worthy. I filled that niche with a G10 Dragonfly just fine.

No problem, and I appreciate your summary listing. I watched several several of the these auctions on eBay. If a person is looking for a Spyderco second those prices are not bad. This is especially true if attending the annual sale requires a 3,200 mile round trip to Golden, Colorado.

sad....
Spyderco does a lot for it's fans on the annual sale and I dont think buying and selling for a huge markup like that is why they do it. They seemingly bring in the most people possible to try and handle the hoards. They price the knives very well especially considering most of the "problems" are hard to pick up on unless you truly look for them. They open the doors early to let those of us who were outside for hours in and get some free coffee and cookies.

Bottomline is I think the Annual sale is quite an undertaking for spyderco and for those who do go and get extras to pass the savings on. I went and walked out with more then 50 knives but I kept less than half, the other half went to forumites and friends who couldn't make it to the sale. Did I make any money in the process? No. Do I care one bit that I missed to opportunity to make decent money by selling on ebay? No.

Delica and Endura are great knives! They're the low priced crack samples that'll get you hooked on spyderco! Feed the need!

BTW maybe you should add some prices the models were originally sold at the sale, I'm sure other would chime in with the sale prices, I know a few. :) Granted the prices varied some.

I need to acquire a BUNCH of factory seconds but refuse to pay 100 percent mark up. I wish I was close to CO so I could go and get 50 or so seconds!!

Any leads for a guy looking?

Maybe you can hook up with a forum member living close to Golden.

Or you can book a plane ticket at a discount. :p
