Ladybug / Manbug

#1

Post by fast.ed »

Rumor has it that the Ladybug is evolving...i.e., the "Manbug". Its supposed to have a thicker blade & spine and handles. Should make it easier to handle for people with larger hands.

Maybe its time to make it a tad longer as well.

Any thoughs Ladybug fans?

The newly released Dragonfly 2 looks like it would fit the need of a Ladybug that is a tad bit longer. :)

yeah, it should be made - asap :p

well i have every lb3 and almost every other older ladybug except 2 colors. i know someone who has what i want but he refuses to sell it :D

i love smaller knives for many reasons. and love my ladybuigs. you carry something bigger all the time too of course but everyone has atleast one ladybug on a key chain or something similar and loves it. my keys stay outside my pockets more so when i need to cut i usually reach for my ladybug first.

Cant wait for the Manbug!

I would love to see some kind of Ladybug size knife (Ladybug, Jester or Manbug) made with a black blade and a colored handle. Black bladed H1 with yellow handle would be sweet, I really like the black bladed dyed orange handle Delica that Spyharpy concocted recently and would love to see that as a Delica or smaller version. Or that bright green from the Jester line with a black blade would be awesome. I would buy any black bladed knife of this size in a heartbeat!

Of course my favorite ladybug is my hawkbill and I would be ecstatic to see a black blade serrated ladybug (or manbug) hawkbill in any format!

Grind...

#5

Post by EPoMan »

Well, I love the Ladybug. It is my most carried and used given my world of city "sheeples"...

What I'd like to see most is a FFG (full flat grind). Seems like with that short a blade, strength wouldn't be sacrificed too much to make it a little demon slicer...

Or a ladybug-sized FRN Dyad...I found the Microdyad to be a knife I wanted very much to "fall in love with" but for its length it was too fat/thick...

Wonder what the grind on the ManBug is going to be...

I am interested in any direction they go with it. My H1 ladybug is my #1 most used knife because it is always with me. (on my keys) I am still looking forward to the H1 hawkbill version too.

got my first ladybug (h1) and im amazed at the f&f, its flawless and even has an adjustable pivot, great job spyderco on this tiny marvel, it came sharper than my out of the box Benchmade Mini-Griptilian that i just recently got, so that says something about this little knife, if your hesitant to get one, dont u will never regret it, i would love to see a ladybug digi cam g-10 that would be sweet, maybe have a mini-millie series, lol, now that would be even sweeter!

everything about my ladybug is perfect except a small amount of side to side lockup movement (common) and the lanyard hole is sharp and rips up the paracord lanyards i put on it.

A small wire pocket clip would be nice.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

I'm sure everyone would like to see a pic of your ladybug with an adjustable pivot

My Ladybug Salt SE is a bit small for my hand (XL glove size), but what do you expect from a key-chain size knife? It took a little practice before I could open and close it one-handed. I like it the way it is. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing this Manbug.

The little Schempp Balance kind of seems like a Manbug to me.

Ah I am liking the adjustable pivot. I was just playing with mine before and noticed it is a little loose, but there is no way to tighten it. I am actually considering picking up the SS ladybug. Does anyone have any pictures/thoughts on it?

Depends to some extent on how you intend to carry the knife and what limits on size and weight that carry method creates in your mind. As an example, for me the FRN Ladybug and Jester, and the micarta Jester, are about as large and heavy as I'd want for use as a keychain knife. Anything bigger and/or heavier, like their SS counterparts and the Grasshopper, competes with my Kiwis for watch/coin pocket carry. That's the niche which I perceive the Manbug as falling into.

I am really pumped about the manbug!!! I've been wanting an upscale keychain knife for years. Love to see titanim scales and premium steel and a flat ground blade, but I'll buy whatever Sal makes. Ladybug is also my most used knife. H1 version is on my work keys, (I often get sweaty at my job, H1 is perfect.) and the purple one is on my other keyring. I plan on getting the orange County comm H1 version for Christmas...also eagerly anticipating the H1 with a hawkbill blade.
