Chinook 3 with unusually usual jimping

Help me figure this one out.
I bought a used 'like new' Chinook 3 from Amazon Warehouse Deals.
I believe that's where Amazon sells items returned by customers.
The box indicates February 2009 production.
It looks pristine except a small chip on the edge.
Oddly, the jimping is same as Manix 2 or Stretch. Sorry no pictures, but it looks as regular as it gets.
I am wondering if the knife was modified.
As I mentioned, it does not show any signs of wear besides a small chip on the blade.
Thank you.

Jimping styles can change on different examples of the same knife made at different times.

Spyderco often makes improvements without any fanfare. The older Chinook III's, like mine, have no jimping on the choil and widely spaced "stepping stone" jimping on the ramp. The newest ones have finer jimping and have it on both the thumb ramp and the choil. There may even be a third configuration in between those two.

Makes sense. Mine has finer jimping on the thumb ramp and none on the choil.
Thank you!

Is the chip on the edge of the blade or on the spine?

Question would be where is the "chip" on the blade?
Spyderco does have "factory seconds" available to the public where there may be some imperfections with the knife. These knives are typically marked by a "notch" on the blade.

It wasn't the 'seconds' score on the spine of the blade and turned out to be nothing: couple passes on the SharpMaker removed it.
Don't know if 'chip' is the proper term: on the edge itself, about 1/16" long and shallow. Not a nick and a bit of a drag when cutting paper.
Also found a youtube video review for a brand new Chinook3 with identical jimping.
The more I handle it the more I like it. Really like the geometry of the blade, its design appears definitely purposeful. Very ergonomic, it's like an infernal Stretch.

My new Chinook 3 also has the fine jimping on the ramp, with no jimping on the choil. I really like that configuration.
