Searching for a Starmate

I am having trouble locating a Starmate or even coming to a conclusion on what a fair price to pay for such a knife would be. I realize that they haven't been in production for close to 7-10 years (I believe), which leads me to believe that they might cost a pretty penny.
I am on bladeforums but haven't had much luck so far. I am looking for the straight edge but will settle for the combo if necessary. I don't believe they would be stocked in stores.
Any one have any other bright ideas?
Thanks for your time and suggestions.

These types of posts (solicitation) are frowned upon on this forum. You could try posting a "wanted" ad on knife B/S/T.

Not sure how you feel about ebay, but they seem to be on there quite often actually.Seems like everytime I type in KeyWord "Spyderco Rare" there are atleast two for sale.Of course they are pricey...
There are a plain and a combo edge on there right now.

It took me a couple of years to finally snag one on eBay without paying extortionist price. Good luck.

Ultimately, a fair price is going to come down to whatever you feel comfortable with based on your resources versus your level of desire for the knife. They don't figure to get any less expensive on the whole.
An alternate strategy would be to consider purchasing another knife or knives with a value equal to what you'd be willing to lay out for a Starmate and offer it up in trade. It would help if this other knife is something you wouldn't mind keeping if said trade did not materialize and/or had a good resale market of its own in case you wanted to cash out. There are times that folks, myself included, would rather horse trade to try to get a specific knife than try to buy it.
A few years ago I saw a large micarta Dyad in a knife shop for a reasonable price. I knew that I wouldn't ultimately keep it but I got it anyway since I figured it could draw good interest in a trade for other knives that I wanted. Sometimes you come out ahead in that scenario, sometimes you don't, but it's possible it can get you right where you want to go if things line up.

The Starmate is a terrific knife! It's surprisingly light weight.
I bought a NIB one on eBay for a co-worker about six months ago for $205. I think around $200 is a fair price.

Ira

I sold a plain edge Starmate a few months ago for 250.00. The knife was in excellent condition and had never been used. I sold it with the original box and, all paperwork(warranty card, spyderco catalog, knife association). Good luck with your search.

This message is for Jay-Ev,
There is no solicitation going on here. I am relatively new to the knife world and am simply asking my fellow Spyderco fans for advice on where I could find a Spyderco knife. No where in my message did I ask anyone on this forum to sell me a knife! There is nothing wrong with doing research and getting input from my fellow forum members when looking else where for a Spyderco knife.
Isn't that why we are all here, to talk about knives and get advice.
I am sick of people like you who have nothing better to do than falsely accuse a fellow forum member of solicitation on this fine forum. If you aren't going to say anything constructive you should mind your own business and stop posting bogus messages and wasting everyones time. If it were up to me, people like you would be banned from forums like these.
Have a nice day

In the last couple months I've also wanted a Starmate. I've found and purchased both a PE and Combo edge models. I think around the $200 price range is what you're going to have to pay. Whether that's a fair price or not depends on how bad you want a Starmate.
The PE I purchased did not come with an original box and I've put it in my daily EDC rotation. I've also recently sent it back to Spyderco for resharpening and just got it back last week. The blade is scary sharp now and looks like new.
The Combo edge version I recently purchased was NIB and will go into my collectors cabinet.
I really like this knife!!!
BTW, on eBay I created a special search for the Starmate so that when ever one came up for auction I got an email and was able to then put it on my watch list. This has worked like a charm for a couple other knives I was looking for.
