Look this is a very odd question to post on the spyderco forum but I am looking for a very very very good survival knife.Only fixed blades are competing here. I made a list of knives that seem very good to me.I will post them all and you guys can make a choice(since you all probably know a lot more about these things than I do)OK?
Here goes...
Gerber BMF
Gerber LMF
Timberline Specwar
Timberline Specwar Aviator
SOG government agent
SOG Seal Team 2000
SOG Seal Pup
Hill Special operations knife
Hill KCT002-1 or KCT002-2
SOG RECON bowie
Camillus Pilots survival knife with the leather and steel sheath
And there's one other thing...Do Any of you guys know where I can find a case V-42 combat knife? A website or something like that....
Thx in advance
Sincerely,
Kim

That's quite a list there. Although I don't have experience with them the Fallkniven A-1 is another good contender. I believe the AF Special Operations Command has selected this as one of their selections.
I personally prefer the Chinook a superb brute of a folder with a good thick blade that is easy to carry and up for almost all heavy jobs, but then you limited your choice to FBs (and not a co among them...sigh). Good luck on your quest.
Stay safe! Stay sharp!

To be real honest with ya, I haven't had any experience with a single one of the knives you mentioned I have heard a lot of good stuff about SOG though, and I am a fan of most of the stuff from Camillus.
If you are open to other brands, Chris Reeve, Busse Combat, Mission Knife & Tool, and Becker K&T all make excellent blades for survival purposes. Most of those I do have experience with... Oh yeah, Fallkniven and Strider are pretty good as well, just stainless instead of carbon, and I like the carbon steels better for long term usage.
Is that Case knife a current production or a discontinued model? I'll see if I can find anything out on it... just can't seem to find that model number listed anywhere...

Hey Gunrunner :
Shoot for the SOG SEAL "pup" ; it's compact
and sharp enough for any good cuttin' job.
As for the Case V-42 "stiletto" try Smoky
Mountain Knifeworks (
www.smkw.com ) or
Atlanta Cutlery (
www.atlantacutlery.com ) or
www.bladeforums.com ( from amongst the collectors ) they could further assist you if the two websites I gave you prove fruitless. Back to fixed blades ; Did you ever give the "Temperence" the "once over"
?? A good, sturdy knife about the dimensions
of the SOG SEAL "pup" availible PE or SE.

A survival knife is good or bad depending on what you expect on it. For instance, I used for a long time a self made one, which was quite OK. (Ugly, but reliable). After a while I got a bargain for a noname knife, blade 440. And belive me, I used it a lot, as I used to work as forester for a few years. So, a plain survival knife could usually do the job you expect from it. (I don't know much about it, but if I were to choose, I'd get a Rambo II I don't know how good it is, but it's surely nice

From a fellow Belgian :
The Timberline Aviator is really nice (the spine is so thick, you can even pry with it.
I don't know if there's a store near to you,but my gun salesman imports them if you ask him nicely (and buy him a beer). That's how he imported a Civilian for me (2years ago = first one in Belgium) and some other goodies.Too me it's the meanest looking Spyder around.

Best bang for the buck is probably one of the Camillus or Kabar traditional military knives (Large, small, pilot's, etc.). Best overall, and the ones I prefer when motorcycling through or flying over the mountains are the Chris Reeve one-pieces.

The Ka-Bar USMC in any of its iterations is an excellent knife. After that, I'd say the Camillus USMC, then Ontario's version. All are essentially the same, but a great design doesn't change much.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.
