I'm looking at my spyderco collection planning to get rid of a few unused ones and chinook 3 stood out. It's designed as SD knife, but I don't know the first thing about knife fighting. It's super heavy, with extreme amount of curve and clip, not a very good blade shape for utility use either.

Just wondering aside from SD, is there anything it excels at? Anyone actually use one for daily chores?

I love my Chinook, but you know me, I don't really USE my knives that hard, and the Chinook 3 still has a factory edge.

IMO It would make an excellent work knife. Just look at it. Its built like a tank, and has a blade with awesome sweep to it plus the FFG.

You're a big guy as well, the extra weight shouldnt be a problem :D

Actually 5 oz is about my comfort limit, or even less when I wear slacks. In my experience too much belly is actually not good for cutting performance, tend to push stuff away and slip.

I use mine pretty often (it's in my pocket today) and I'm thrilled with it. The handle fits my big hands very well and the flat ground S30V blade is a wicked slicer.

If your daily cutting needs involve a lot of precision work with the tip of your knife, you're probably better off with a wharnnie or spear point blade. I like the big belly on the Chinook.

It's heavy and bulky, but in anything other than sweat pants I don't mind carrying it.
