A companion...

I'm thinking of purchasing a smaller companion knife to go alone with my Military for EDC as well. Any suggestions? I'm really leaning towards a cricket right now as I find the little Ladybug I keep in my pocket a tad to small even though for its size it cuts like nobodys business. Thanks.

I have a Mouse on the way.I was thinking this morning about useing it as a back up to my Milli. There are some places that I would not feel good about useing the milli around alot of people.

The Navigator, in any of it's iterations, isn't a bad little pocket knife. Not much bigger than the Cricket with a bigger, more ergo handle and thicker blade if that's a consideration.

SS Dragonfly or Calypso Jr lt(if you can find one).
I pretty much always have my Dragonfly on me, but now can't even carry that at school so it's off for about 9hrs a day.
When I have the cash and order my Millie and Meerkat from Glasshart, I will be carrying the Calypso jr lt as left, Millie as right, Meerkat(nav style) replacing the cricket(as left/front belt) and keeping the dragonfly as IWB.

I use the "cricket" as EDC, although it would
be a good companion. I say ANY of the smaller <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s these forumites suggest would be worthy of consideration.
Just my two cents.

I use a Navigator as my primary EDC (just fits me better than my Mouse), and a Cricket as a money clip. However, my CF Cricket is close to moving up from money clip to replacing my slotted Almite Navigator is primary EDC, but maybe we'll get a Navigator in CF?

What about the Native? I'm planning on buying the Native in Plainedge to complement my Spyderedge Delica for non-work carry.

How about the Standard with G-10?It's not too big,not too small and not too scary for all but the most faint of heart.I use one as my weekday EDC.This knife is like a custom version of the Delica.Try it,you'll like it!

You might try one of the new Salsas. I tried one out yesterday and I am going to pick a Ti one tomorrow hopefully!

What about the Toad or Copilot? Does anyone carry these? They don't seem to be mentioned much in the forum.

The Mouse is my favorite small knife. Find myself carrying it a lot as my only knife around the house at night or on the weekends. Normally rides IWB during the day backing up the bigger guys.
The Dragonfly would be my next choice. Wish wr could get a G10 Dragonfly..........

If you like a flat-ground blade such as the Military has, I would go with the FRN Dragonfly or FRN Calypso Jr. The Toad is very small a is a pretty heavy package for what it is (it is too thick).
From the Navigator/CoPilot family, I actually prefer the Pegasus (which has been discontinued). I am not big on a hollow-ground skinning blade shape myself.
Or, try a Titanium Salsa - compression lock, flat ground, nice handle material. I think the blade is too wide, but YMMV.

Thanks for all the feedback...I really love my Millie but just hate to keep pulling it out for all of lifes little mundane cutting tasks, i.e. opening mail, boxes, etc...The Cricket just seems esp. suited for this task, however that blue Salsa has really caught my eye as well. Has the problem with the blade contacting the bolster and leaving a little flat spot been corrected? This seems to be the only drawback to this otherwise nifty little knife.

The Toad is a good all-purpose small knife. I carry one of these in pe on a daily basis. This is a great knife for small routine tasks, and I have even pressed it into service when I dissect toads. I am a 7th grade science teacher (-: It is a little thick but that seems to help me be able to get a better purchase on the handle. For bigger chores, a large Classic Sebbie with leather or wood inlays OR a Dozier Buckhunter fills the bill!!

I just got the VG-10 Almite Navigator, and it's one heck of a little knife! My Navigator thinks it's a moose, hey that didn't sound as good as the Mouse/moose saying. RKBA!

Medic2110, you never mentioned if your Military was plain-edged or serrated. Perhaps you may want to have your smaller companion knife to have a complementary (or opposite) edge type--that way you could have more options when faced with various cutting tasks. On the other hand, your personal preference may be that you want similar blade types on both knives. Just wondered if you thought about this factor.
All of the recommendations given so far are sound. I personally like the Standard, Dragonfy, and Navigator suggestions. Have fun choosing your companion knife.

I used to be a big serrated fan but as of late have gone to strictly PE. My Millie is PE...
