I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

yeah I agree its the sweet spot. The trick, for me at least, is keeping it at that blade length but under 4oz. Not a knife in my collection is over that weight and I intend to keep it that way.

I definitely agree that that is a sweet spot. I believe my manix2 has the perfect length blade. can't wait for the superleaf & caly 3.5 to come out!

I've been Boy Scout camping this week and brought along my FFG foliage green modified Delica, Blue Stretch, and my modified FFG foliage green Endura.

I have determined that the Stretch 2 is my optimum sized knife for all around needs.

  • Handle ergonomics

My favorite folder is the Stretch, which happens to be 3.5". Out of the ones named, only the Caly 3.5 has any chance of displacing a Stretch from my pocket. Even then, I'm enough of a pessimist to figure that it will probably be G-10, which I don't like, and partially pinned, which makes scale replacement more difficult. I am hoping against hope that the Boye dent in the bolstered Sprint Persian will not be quite as deep as on the originals.

I'll play the minority and say i like it right at 3 inches...but just because of legality issues. The Caly 3.5 kind of turns me off because of the extra length. Do none of you guys have these laws or do you just not worry about them?

I used to be limited to 3" when I was a neighbor of yours (Evil D). Now my carry limit is 4". I find 3.5" just about right for EDC. But I'm pretty happy with anything in the 2.75"-3.75" range.

**** if i had no limits i'd probably carry a Police...or a Military, at least as far as carrying outside of work. For work i'd probably stick with smallish blades just to keep non knife people from freaking out. Outside work you can bet if it were legal i'd be packing 4+.

Here I think it's legal to 4", but my friends say that it's the width of your palm. Also, another friend says that any size is legal if it's open carry. I carry a Military and use it for a lot of tasks. Fine work to get stuff out of my fingernails, some food prep, opening packages, and other various tasks. I personally find that it isn't too big for tasks. Around people, though, it can freak them out.

I hate to be odd man out but I dont consider the Manix 2 and the Para2

in the 3 3/8 -3 1/2 range. With a cutting edge of 2 7/8 on the Manix 2 and

3 1/8 on the Para 2 they both have a way to go before they're in the 3 3/8

to 31/2 range. I know we're talk about blade length but I wish both of them

had a cutting edge as long as the blade length.

I just couldn't get into the Para 1 and 2 because of the cutting edge length.

I do have a Manix 2 se and really like it.

The palm width thing, i think, was always a myth. People have been saying that for years but consider the difference between a petite woman's hand vs. Andre The Giant's hand. That's a big difference in "legal size".

Also, the catch around here is that Ohio has one law, but so does every other county and they're not all the same. I know some counties up North are as small as 2.5.

It's a myth in the sense that no state, county, or municipality has such a law. It's a somewhat legitimate concern since, even now in the 21st Century, there are cops who swear otherwise. May not stand up in court, but can cost you time, aggravation, and possibly money. OTOH, if you carry your knife discreetly and don't go out of your way to attract negative attention from Mr. Policeman, blade length becomes academic.
