old school endura

#1

Post by JEFF B »

Anybody know if its possible to tighten up the clip on an old school endura. Its one with an FRN clip. I don't carry it much, because i almost lost it years ago.It would be kinda cool to carry it again, but i don't wanna loose it.It was my first knife with a pocket clip so it brings back memories. I thought about heating it a little with a heat gun to force it closer to the handle, but i never tried it.Its not worth ruining it.Any advice?

You might slide some skateboard tape under the clip. That should give you less space between the clip and your pocket and provide some traction from the rough part of the tape.
Sometimes you gotta kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight.

I have a Delica with the frn clip. It was like yours. I took a large nail or spike and pushed it under the middle of the clip to hold the open end of the clip up a little bit, then slowly heated the frn clip with a butane lighter..a Bic.. when it got warm to the touch, I put a heavy rubber band around the open end of it and let it cool with the spike still in between the clip and handle. Be careful not to heat the clip too much. I did this three years ago and have worn the Delica for all this time and never had the clip come loose from my front pocket. Just be cardful not to heat it too much and melt it. Just warm it. Hope this helps.

If the tape doesn't work out, you could also file some texture to the under side of the clip.

I would start your efforts with calling Spyderco Customer Service to ask if they have any suggestions or what they could do for you. I think fret seems like the more sensible suggestion. Funny idea's that came to mind: Buy thicker fabric pants? Have leather sewn over the lip of your pockets making them thicker?

Heating it to try to bend it back is a possibility. I had the clip on my old Endura get sprung and warmed it up with a heat gun (didn't want to use open flame). It's a bit tricky with the gun though because you're dealing with a relatively small area you want to heat but a larger and not so tightly focused heat source. I got some of the gap closed but not as much as I would have liked. I put some soft grip tape under the clip to provide some resistance against the pocket fabric and what helped a little more.

If the molded clip were to be broken off I believe Spyderco's solution for a warranty repair would be to take off whatever portion was left and replace it with a metal clip.

Sent my Merlin back years ago with a snapped off clip. They ground the remains off and screwed a new metal clip on.

So when it happened to my Endura I bought a clip and fixed it myself.
