2010 Forum Knife Poll redo

#1

Post by Sequimite »

If you could choose from the following, which would you prefer as a forum knife (estimated prices, higher price if different steel):

$ 44 FRN UKPK, GIN1, FFG, custom color, special laser etching
...50 Swick, S30V special laser etching
...68 FRN Native, S30V, FFG, custom color, special laser etching
...70 Mule, S30V special laser etching
...86 G10 Manix2, 154CM, different available G10, special laser etching
...95 G10 UKPK, S30V, different available G10, special laser etching

In the first iteration of this poll, the Manix2 garnered 60%. Since then a variety of Manix2 variants have come out with no end in sight.

With the UKPK and Swick, there is more than one possible blade shape.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I vote for the FRN UKPK purely because it's currently being produced in Golden and is the cheapest option. I think those factors will increase the likelihood that Sal and Kristi will go ahead and present us with a knife this year.

I voted UK. I think the design screams Sal and Spyderco. Consider it's legacy: Calypso, Calypso Jr., UKPK, Caly3, Urban...

A unique color for the FRN handle and maybe a FFG leaf blade... Or a hollow ground with higher end steel...

I voted for the UKPK because, given the current climate with personal knife imports here any lockers and even the Swick are being seized by British Customs  Also, I feel it will be a good knife for Spyderco to produce and will have great usability and appeal around the world :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

I don't have any slipjoints yet, so the FRN UKPK appeals to me. Low price, Golden produced, and legal for almost all our international friends, it just makes sense. I'll take one of whatever Spyderco decides to go with, assuming they even decide to make one.

As long as UKPK can be FFG, I will go for it and will get a couple.

Changing my vote from the manix to the ukpk. Until things get sorted out in NYC it's pretty much the only thing shipping here...and a ffg frn ukpk would be sweet

Not interested in any of those unless the Manix has a different steel.

In order of preference:
$50 Swick, S30V special laser etching
-that would be freaking cool. Forum run of an already limited model. Also I really want another Swick or 2 :)
$70 Mule, S30V special laser etching
-not only would this be a cool and unique piece but it would allow us Mule-loving forumites to have a standard production reference steel to test against the first run and exotic steels.
$86 G10 Manix2, 154CM, different available G10, special laser etching
-Manix2 is my all-time favorite locking folder design. with a FFG, different color and special etching it would be even more endearing to me.
$ 44 FRN UKPK, GIN1, FFG, custom color, special laser etching
-Not a big slippie user anymore, but the price is right and a unique forum run would be exciting.
$68 FRN Native, S30V, FFG, custom color, special laser etching
-There have already been a lot of Natives done specially, but depending on the color and etching I could still be quite excited about this.
$95 G10 UKPK, S30V, different available G10, special laser etching
-A lot of money for a slipjoint, *but* I could see this as an ultimate NKP-friendly all environment user, and I would certainly give it a shot. For reference, my Forum Dialex was about 10 bucks less, and that one excited me more foor the money.

Those are just my opinions of course..
Now, make that Manix2 a clear FRN model with internal etching or something similarly cool and all other options fall by the wayside. Just MNSHO :D

$44 FRN UKPK
I would really favor something other than a slip-it.

I like the FRN UKPK. I don't have anything like it. Low price doesn't hurt.

Yeah, except that aren't Mules supposed to get a larger number of users acquainted to not so common steels? I mean, an S30V Mule would make no sense at all, IMHO.

And let's try to keep the etching in check, if possible.
