Pretty tough to land a c46?

#1

Post by jlamb »

This is the one older spyderco model that I lust over. I like the g-10, no ti for me. I dont really see them come up for sale all that often, but at the same time I dont watch the auctions like some of you may do. So, are they tough to get a hold of???

Thanks

They're not one of the more common models, but they show up on eBay with reasonable regularity. As with many of the older models, patience is the key, coupled with a wiillingness to pay the going rate, whatever that may be. Don't follow that model, so can't say what that would be at the moment.

Or, you can use the brute force method, join BladeForums and post a "Wanted to Buy - will pay $500" and you'll probably have one inside of a day.

I saw one black bladed in VG10 at the "local" (50 miles away) store couple month ago $200, which is not that bad. PM me if you interested.

Is the tanto a knife you want more for collection/investment or for some carry & use? I ask because I wanted one badly for a long time myself. When I got one in a trade it wasn't mint and at first I wondered if I'd made a mistake in not holding out for one that was. As it turned out, the knife was really nice to carry & use and I didn't face the question of "should I or shouldn't I?" that I would have had if I'd gotten one NIB rather than used. I imagine it would be easier for you to find a used one than a mint one, so maybe if you go that route first you can have the knife in hand without dropping a lot of dough to see how much you really like it.

I would probably end up using it, but probably not for a while. This may seem weird, but what I do with a new knife is usually just play with it while watching tv or sitting on the couch, then after some time has went by- in some instances, years, I then begin to carry it. Weird, right?? I have a brand spanking new manix2 carpenter, gayle bradley, urban wharnie, and meerkat that are played with but not actually used. I will use them dont get me wrong, I just like to keep them pristine for a bit. I dont consider myself a collector, I like to use them.

Nah, not weird. I've done that with some knives. I consider it an extended introductory period. :)

+1 to jujigatame.

Never seen that model before-had to look it up. Not ususally a big tanto fan but this one "does it" for me. Cool choice. It looks like it begs to be used so I might avoid getting a pristine example so as not to be freaked out if it got scratched. Good luck in your quest! I just found a C60P I had been looking for so I'm sure you wil meet with similar success.
