I was able to examine a prototype in Amsterdam. Close your eyes and picture a puukko by Helle or a Martiini, well that's how it looks. Perfect, in a word.

Fixed blade or folder? Thanks.

Well, I saw it at Eugene, and I promptly stuck my foot in my mouth... : ) But, anyway...

If I recall correctly...

Arctic Birch Handle, Brass Guard (in the style of nordic knives, see Jukka Hankala or Kainun Puuko), Polished Blade, Diamond cross-section, 3 to 3.5 inch blade.

And I think it was a Pekka.

And, I cannot wait to own one.... Exciting Times!

Best,
Marion

Got an email from Pekka today, and he confirmed that it was indeed his puukko I handled.

You can see his work here....

http://www.puukkopekka.com/

And, while I am pretty sure Sal and Pekka worked together to come up with a new model, this is the style of the knife....

But, like said, with a Arctic Birch or Raita handle. http://www.elisanet.fi/puukkopekka/puukko_18.html

And here, you can see how that diamond cross section looks...

Note - I saw an update at Knifecenter that made me think this was model was a go, but based on that news item being gone (or my web-fu is weak), and no word from the SpyderCrew, this model may be still in the silent zone.

Oh yeah, if you haven't figured it out yet, I LOVE Spyderco Fixed Blades....

I never liked Puukko styles knives, but the "tactical puukko" with the micarta handle and kydex sheath looks amazing, so does this folder with the enigmatic "spyderco license" listed next to the link for it:

http://www.elisanet.fi/puukkopekka/veitsi_09.html

I honestly hope the above is it, I would buy that in a heartbeat.

That is a sweet looking knife. Finally, a way to carry a Puukko in the city without looking like a psyco.

- best wishes, Jazz.

Doing some research over at KnifeForums, in their Scandinavian Knife Forum (which really should be called "Nordic Knife Forum"), but I digress...

I was doing some reading of back threads, when I saw this knife, which is pretty darn close to what I remember of the Spyderco Pekka Puukko....
