Spyderco used AUS 8 steel and the Enduras and Delicas had clips molded on? They were prone to breaking.
Back then I had a good customer who would only buy that style of clip and refused the metal ones. Good luck with that now.

AUS-8 was OK with me

Heck Yes I Do!!! I still use my AUS-8 Catcherman SE almost on a daily basis. Personally I still like AUS-8 blades. Personally I've always still preferred the older Catcherman models over the later ones. Spyderco did a really decent job heat treating that steel.

One of my most sentimental favorite Spyders that I wish I hadn't of traded off were my pair of stainless handled Calypso Junior models ( PE & SE). They were the only Caly Jr models that were hollow ground and I'm sure those models are quickly gaining collector status as we speak.

I never cared much for AUS-6 steel but I always like the AUS-8 & AUS-10. There are obviously many blades steels now that perform better than AUS-8 but it was a really good blade steel in the 1990's era especially.

I got an older Delica with a molded clip.

I think they still make a model or two with molded clips. I bought one last year and sold it cause I didn't like the clip.

The molded clip is pretty much whats keeping me from getting an FRN Dragonfly. I heard they were coming out with a wireclip FRN DFly, but that rumor kind of died again I think.

My Brother recently came here to stay with me due to a job loss and some other stuff. It amazed me when he pulled out an AUS 8 Delica I bought for him in the early to mid 90's. It was in perfect shape except for one broken serration.

I of course had him put it away and upgraded him with a D4 VG10 SE model.

He lost his house, had his clothes and other things in storage stolen, but he kept the knife. I was impressed. Even the clip was intact.

Those old ones were great knives.

BTW, Spyderco and SOG ( Air Sog) showed me how good Aus 8's little brother Aus 6 can be too. I can get a razor edge on it almost faster than any other steel on the market. I learned to respect it.

I have a couple molded clip Delica's in full SE. One is G-2 and the other is AUS-8. I use the AUS-8 version as a food knife when away from home. My G-2 model is my nasty work knife when I help out at a Auto Repair shop. It still looks okay for what it has been asked to cut. The G-2 version could greatly benefit from a serration regrind. :)

I have quite a few molded clipped Spydercos....not for nothing never had one break...ever!...but some did loosen up a bit after many years of carry...Don't let the molded clip deter you from buying an oldie...they hold up pretty darn good.....Doc :D

my buddy gave me a d1 serrated many moons ago, my first :spyder: , and i used it hard for @ 6 years. it has the g2 steel, and it never let me down. the clip is loose, so i don't carry it for fear of loss, but it's still very capable.

I bought my first :spyder: a C10SBK in AUS-8 about 19 years ago, and that started it all. The knife had to be imported from the USA. I found the knife in an add in a copy of guns & ammo. This was before the World Wide Net. I still have the knife, enjoying it's retirement. The handle is marked "clipit endura". This was the time :spyder: collectors were called "clipiteers". :D

I like to take the metal clips off! The molded clips are easier on the hand.
