For sale section.....
For sale section.....
Why not have one for folks to sell their Spyderco products and discontinued knives, etc.?

The short answer is because Sal Glesser would prefer not to have that way. Check out the forum rules:

Just the way it is. There are plenty of other places where you can buy/sell.

I'm glad there isn't a for sale section on this forum. There are plenty of places to do so!
Not having one keeps this forum a smaller, tighter knit community, and a more specialized one. Otherwise many people would join just to sell their knives. It also helps reduce friction between members. If you sold someone a knife for what you paid or less then they turned a profit on it wouldn't you be mad?
Idk that is just me though lol
Ultimately this is Mr. Glesser's house and we will obey and respect his rules! I am just gracious this forum exists :)
Welcome btw :)

There is a place to buy Spyderco knives and gear on this site (http://www.spyderco.com/catalog). Since the site is owned/operated by Spyderco, it seems logical that they be the only ones selling on it.
Spyderco probably has some interest in keeping their dealers happy too...so supporting sales by non-dealers does not seem a wise idea.
Though, this is all my conjecture. Sal, Kristi and the others could probably tell the REAL reason(s) that there is not a section for people to sell. Suffice to say it is mentioned in the rules that attempting to sell is not permitted, therefore it seems like an endeavor Spyderco is not interested in developing...I could be wrong?

Same feelings as last two posters.
This keeps the forum clean and free for discussions. There are posts on knife values, where to buy, etc., but have a selling section would take away from the overall feeling of the site.
Keeping the membership where it is and taking new members so they may add to discussions best serves the "Shiny Footprint" mentality.
You will learn that if you are looking for something, or looking to sell something, chances are you will meet someone here who will be interested just by word of mouth.

No need really
Bladeforums already has a great buy, sell, trade marketplace on their Forum. I've always been very satisfied with it and I know that there are quite a few Spyderville citizens that also hang out over there as well.
I can see why the Glesser's elect not to have a for sale sub-forum on this website. Now personally just my own opinion I wouldn't mind seeing them consider a trading section for members only. And confine it to only trading used Spyderco stuff you might have.
But that's not my call and only a suggestion and I certainly don't have a final say in it. But the other guys are right in the fact that there are already many sites out there you can buy. sell and trade on.

Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!
I'm happy not having yet another place to buy/sell knives - there are plenty around already. We're lucky to have a great forum like this, run and hosted by Spyderco, and I think we should just respect the fact that this forum is different from the others. :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)
I think a case can be made for both sides of the argument.
However, I will say this: I do not think that the community is tighter because there is no sale section, quite the contrary. Let me give you a personal example: I have probably 80 or so Spydercos, most come from dealers, Blade Forum members and eBay.
I have 40 or so Benchmades, more than half of which I bought from members of the BM forum.
Although I am much closer to Spyderco as a brand, I have many more friends on that competing forum, mostly because I have traded with them and I know I can trust them. If a member hasn't screwed anyone after dozens of successful transactions, he is OK in my book. This forum has a lot of great members, but we do not really get to know each other. I come here to see what's new and what's coming and that's it.
Just my thoughts, but I think collectors need to be able to do deals with each other.
Then again, collectors are kind of despised here, but that is another problem...
As for the argument that it is wrong to profit from selling a knife one has bought from someone else for less, I say that is the fun part!

I guess I should have elaborated a bit more. I meant the number of active forumites is smaller and therefore a "tighter" community. By that I mean there are fewer "Hi, Bye" members. The people who come here come with legitimate questions, or to offer their help to others. Even just to show off their latest purchases. We all have a love for Spyderco products and love to share our knowledge with others. So we may not all be as close as we could be, but those who are active know (for the most part) who the other active members are. (it makes sense in my head I promise :p )LorenzoL wrote:I think a case can be made for both sides of the argument.

I agree with you on the fact that selling and trading canmake members closer. I know several of my friends on USN have become so because they sold me a knife or I sold them one and we pm'd back and forth until we became friends. So I agree with you completely on that.
Also what I meant by making money off a knife you purchased for less, is when you do it as a favor or in good faith. I have sold a few of my knives that I didn't make anything off of just because the person buying it really wanted it or I knew them and felt it would be wrong to profit off of them. I get pissed if I sell a knife that I don't really have to, but rather want to so that it helps out the recipient, and that person turns around and makes $20 off of my good will.
I could definitely argue both sides though you are definitely right about that. lol
Regardless, it is the final say of the Boss himself and we should respect it :)

Sorry, but not everyone here is great to deal with.
Use caution if someone PM's you looking to buy here........
Other forums are better for that........
Lorenzo knows who I am talking about...........
Others here may know as well...........
Try and help someone out and...... BAM....
Its broken off in you.

Fortunately the member Mark is referring to is the exception rather than the norm. However, I will never do any other deals through PM on this forum for lack of transparency. I think that if you are going to deal with other members you need to know what they have been up to by checking their feedback. I do not want to elaborate here, this is not the place, but I am just saying that when I read that someone paid such and such knife a staggering amount of money I do not believe it anymore due to my past experience with that member.
On a regular forum, that guy would have been exposed a long time ago.
