Clear FRN

#1

Post by BDNX »

I saw where there is going to be a clear FRN handled spydie coming up...I think thats a great idea. I'd love to see alot of different models offered in a clear FRN if at all possible...maybe even some Salt models, etc. What do you guys think about this?

Somewhere I think in Wouter's proto pics...I'm pretty sure it was a Manix 2 proto if I'm not mistaken.

Salts are best in yellow, visibility question. For public use.

I would love a clear FRN Delica, flat ground.

I think it makes a knife look like a cheap toy. Also wonder if it's a strong as regular FRN, seems to me the glass fibers would make it cloudy.

As for the 'cheap toy' looks, that might be a plus in todays sheeple world. The knife screams toy or gadget, more than a weapon. Its the same as if you would test the same person with a full black CE delica and pink D4, you can guess which one would look 'less' threating to the test person - lets imagine a woman or some sheeple office worker whos not into knives at all, on that place.

Fiber Reinforce Nylon, I don't see any fiber there. Plexi glass maybe?

I am not a big FRN fan, and clear FRN I like even less.

Pretty sure Eric said in the Amsterdam video that they are not sure if they are going to do a Manix 2 in clear FRN.

Here's a pic.

I'd like one of this but I just do hope they won't stop making the standard manix 2 or the sprint run manix 2s.

It probably won't be the same kind of "built like a tank" Manix. It would still be nice to have though. Kinda like a CBBL Delica probably.

I don't much care what other people think about it. I love it!

Though I have to echo Deacon and wonder if there's less F in this FRN?

I believe Eric said in a video that it was not done deal yet that clear plastic would be used in production.

It is within the first minute.

There was some talk at OKCA, mid-April, that the plastic used in the proto seen above would not be used in the production model. The proto was available for inspection Saturday (unfortunately, I could only attend Sunday so I missed it).

I was intrigued at the jump into clear frn. My girlfriend will grab some of my knives like a salt series unit and says it looks cheap can you imagine what would be said about that manix? Anyhow what do they know huh? :) She also grabbed my all black stainless Byrd Meadowlark and said now that's
a knife, got some heft to it.
I really think that if they want to do something a bit different they should continue to
promote and offer more of the translucent G-10 like on the Leaf Storm on more models.
That in my opinion looks great!

The "F" and "R" are not obvious but I'd be on that one in a New York second. I grew up with those 1960s visible man and phantom Mustang models and have always had a soft spot for see-though mechanical items!

I thought I'd read aroud here before that clear is the uncolored (natural) state of FRN. I can't find it though, and it was years ago. But it has stuck in my mind for a ling time that frn is dyed during it's forming, and if no dye is injected it's clear.

But, as I said, I can't find that post, so I could be making that up. Hah!
