Can anyone talk me out of it? Or definitely into it? ;-)

It's an extremely solid and secure knife. Very close to a fixed blade when locked. You won't forget it's on you (5.5 oz'ish) but I can't think of a task that would be taxing for it.

Basically it's the knife Conan would buy. =)

Buy two. You won't regret it. Ball bearing lock is perfect. It is easy to use gloved or bare-handed. :D

Thanks! Is there a similar model that's slightly smaller? I would probably prefer that, ideally w/ the same steel.

Originally, I didnt like design. No FFG, no ultra steel, heavy, BUT I had to buy one. 1) didnt have a caged ball lock yet, 2) price was too good to pass up 3) I actually like 154 steel.

It is a tank of a knife worth every penny at that low price.

That's a tough one.

Probably the closest "tough folder" would be the current Para Military with a compression lock and a 3" blade. It's CPM-S30v instead of 154cm and about $100 retail.

There are others like the Native, Delica G10, Rookie G10, Persistence, Poliwog G10, etc that have a few similar traits (and some very opposite) but don't really fit the same purpose. I would go to the home pages and sort the knife catalog by "Every Day Carry".

It is one of my two favorite Spyderco knives currently, the other being the Gayle Bradley folder. The $80ish G10/154CM version is a great bargain. If you can find one of the CTS-XHP sprints at a reasonable price, grab it quickly - they are in short supply. The Manix 2 has a bulletproof lock, a great handle and a great blade (both FFG and HG are great). I would buy it without delay or hesitation.

Easily one of the greatest value for dollar Spyderco you can have. At just around 70 bucks you can't get a better OVERALL knife.

Whats to think about buy it already. Great knife excellent for the money super tough and super sharp. Holds a good edge in my opinion.

Go for it Speedmaster. I agree with all of the previous replies. The Manix2 was my second Spyderco and I love it :) Very sturdy and strong :D . It inspires confidence.

So far I don't care much for my FG manix 2, the handle shape feels very odd to me and I fail to see the need for so much jimping. The handle is already very contoured for grip and the jimping is very sharp, I would think with extended use it would destroy my hands. This is my first manix and when I pick it up I always put it back down and grab a military or Bradley.

That being said, fit and finish on my manix 2 are top notch and I feel its a good value for the money, especially the 154cm ones.

Sounds like I am one of the few but so far I am not liking the knife, maybe it will grow on me or maybe I will trade it off.

Why are you still thinking about it? get it already.

Interesting post. I bought the S90V sprint for the blade last year. Got it, used it a little, and had a *meh* sort of reaction, not too different from yours. A while back I decided to give it another try and, for whatever reason, it really clicked for me (no pun intended). So perhaps you will have a similar experience. I've really come to appreciate the design.

I suggest you buy it and try it out. I was like some people here that wasn't too interested as it wasn't full flat grind and didn't have the best steel. I picked one up NIB for a decent price and loved it. Because of that one I ended up getting the Blue and Green ones as well. You won't be disappointed.

Sorta similar experiences here too on the S90V Manix... though I think a lot of it comes down to me being so accustomed to carrying tip down on my work knives. My D2 Para never let the Manix 2 get near my pocket, even with it's S90v blade. Now the GB M4 wont let my old Mini Manix in my pocket either!

I had the good sense to pass my Manix 2 on to someone much more appreciative....

i guess ill be the black sheep here and give my opinion...

you cant deny the facts stated about the structure of the knife but to me the knife is too big for "my" hand and "my" pocket weight.

Manix to me = a Tank, which actually could be great for some people, just not me.

agreed on best all around edc. I'm hoping I can get in on a sprint run with the carpenter steel before they're all gone :)

This knife seemed to have everything I could want, esp the CTS-XHP one, but after I got it I was kind of underwhelmed with the ergonomics and all the jimping. The handle just doesn't feel as good as the full-size Manix, but after carrying it around and holding it more, it's definitely growing on me. It's definitely a solid knife. I really like the ball lock.
