I've always like the Delica, it was my first high-performance knife. Over the years, I've come to rely on it as my fall back. Others seem to come and go but this one is always around. I have a few (mostly D4s) that get carried a lot.

I have an older D3 CE in the window sill in the garage that always gets the messy jobs. I was changing my oil the other day and could not get the filter to budge. Out came the D3 to punched a hole in it, insert and lever it to loosen. Just the "right tool" for the job. I use them like a Cresent wrench or a pair of Vise Grips...tools to get stuff done.

I was wondering if anyone else always comes back to the Delica and what you use them for.

you stabbed a D3 through an oil filter ? im impressed actually, are oil filters rather thin ?

I love the Delica truly, ive been carrying many different versions in the last 17 years, cant change to anything else.

Never thought to use a knife for that. I usually opt for a large screwdriver and a larger heavy object to "persuade" the screwdriverthrough the filter case.

The delica is certainly my workhorse knife though

the delica was my first spyderco, a 1st generation fully serrated model. i used that knife for 6 or 7 hard years. i worked in a fiberglass production shop when i first got it, and used it to cut glass strand and woven glass mat, cut open plastic resin containers, cardboard, trimmed bondo, and semi-cured excess fiberglass from around the parts we made. i ended up breaking the tip at some point, and had to reprofile it. the serrations just never seemed to dull after a certain point and it would just power through about everything i asked it to, even the tough nylon strapping used in shipping.
then i went to work in a casting foundery and i used that knive to clean the insides of the sand molds used to cast the 316l stainless parts we made. that took its toll on the edge and i eventually retired the knife to the knife case, although i still carry and use it every once in a while. after a little tlc, the serrations came back to life.
now i have two gen-4 delicas that i edc, a frn pe and a g-10 pe. these are the most comfortable to use knives that i have and two of my favorites.

I just retired my D2 after years of using it for carving, cutting rope, cutting cardboard, cutting tin and anything under the sun. I love that knife. I had to re-profile the tip as well because I broke it doing some stupid throwing stuff with it. I love my new d4 waved because of the tip re-profile so that it won't break.

It truly is a great platform. My first and second Spydies were both Delicas (CE D1 and as SS PE D2) that have been used and abused for many years. They are in retirement now, but have been replaced by several D4's.

Out of all the Spydercos and other knives I have and use, the Delica along with the Military, are the two that I always seem to come back to. Case in point, my EDC this week consists of my BG-42 Millie and my Krein'd D4W. Wickedly sharp and slicy combo! :cool:

I was very pleasently surprised when I first held a G10 Delica. I am really looking forward to a FFG D4 ZDP 189 model which will join my EDC rotation!

A couple of CF D3s were our first intro to Spyderco. They're retired now, living in our closet in their boxes, but they occasionally come out to play with the other 19 Spydies that live with us.

We moved from them to a couple of ZDP189 D4s. We still keep them as work knives. My wife has hers in her desk at work and mine stays in my M1 bag in the car along with a DMT green/white Diafold and some other stuff.

These days, it's almost always one of my Caly 3s that gets pocket time. I've got six of them now, plus a UKPK. They all want pocket time.

Loved the Delica's. They are the Spyderco that drew me into the darker side of knives and collecting. I don't carry them anymore, but they are scattered among my vehicles as emergency knives. And i can truly say that I've mistreated several of them over the years. Still have a few of the "rarer" models in my collection but the originals have been past along or are in glove boxes!

I think it's one of the best designed folding knives out there. It took me a while to order my first Delica because I tend to prefer larger knives, I regret waitting that long. I've got a Delica 4 and a Delica G-10, with one of the new flat ground models on the way (in blue!).

I love the size, the handle shape, the lightweight. It's really a great EDC pocket knife, the only one in its size category that I carry really often.
