Finding a Mule Team Knife

#1

Post by HistoricalMan »

I was recently browsing the old "Show Your Mule" thread and felt a sudden urge to pick up a Mule, preferably S35V or S90V, and send it off to Mr. Tom Krein. However, I know that Spyderco aren't selling any Mules as of right now.

Consequently, I'm curious as to how difficult you guys think it would be to find a NIB Mule Team knife? :o

Should I even bother, or should I wait for the new Mule to come out?

I too have been browsing the old Mule threads lately, and I can't wait to get my hands on my first Mule. I don't know about the availability of older Mules, I figure I'll just wait for the next one to be released.

I imagine Mr. Krein gets quite busy around that time (if he's ever not busy).

All depends on how much you're willing to pay. As a general rule, the least expensive route will be to wait for a run in a steel you find acceptable, and buy it direct from Spyderco.

All the Mule team knives, from MT-1 thru MT-6, show up on eBay occasionally. They show up on the BladeForum exchange occasionally. You might catch a bargain, but generally you will pay a stiff premium. There is even at least one dealer who has both of the versions you mentioned available, albeit at rather exotic prices.

I say you should wait for a future run that you like. From what I've read, Sal has some interesting offers waiting for release. The nature of the Mule Team line guarantees that some thing exotic will turn up.

Definitely wait. I bought (3) S35VN Mules for $65 from SFO (the extra came from a friend who only wanted 1) and sold one of them for $150 on ebay. All Mules resell at a premium, although strangely the S90V has had the smallest.

Wow, that's a nice little profit. Did you try reselling the Sage 1s yet? I remember you picked up a bunch of them late last year. I got 2 extras and so far gifted one while the other is my EDC backup.

I love the S90V mule But then again i don't see many of those for sale. I've seen the S35VN and the 52100 pop up a few times for sale but the others seem to be hiding.
