I'm getting a Rock Lobster and when I showed the knife to my GF she was pretty much like: "GAH..." *silence* "...THAT has got to be the ugliest knives I have ever seen!"
It's not that she doesn't like knives, she has a couple herself and carries a purple LB3 on her keys.
In the end we came into an agreement that to make up for buying an ugly knife I have ot buy her an SS Cricket. I'm ok with that. :D

I was just curious as to how other knife nuts feel about this subject.
So, how do you feel about the Rock Lobster:
A beauty, or an abomination?
Personally I think the Rock Lobster is a thing of beauty and function and that Jens Anso is a frigging genious. :p

The ugliest knife ever? I'd say no, but it ain't very pointy.

I dont mind it, but it doesnt do anything for me. Doesnt mean I wouldnt buy one, though. As with all Spydies, I know that once I get in my hands, I will learn to appreciate the design elements - even if they are not as good as some others. I do like its 'uniqueness'.

From a design and aesthetic sense, I love it. I'm not so sure about the handle though. It doesn't look very comfortable to hold.

The beauty in any tool is its functionality. That varies depending on the user and his/her needs.

Looks like a glorified butter knife that would cut thru a lobster like butter. :D

True, but even the most right handed person can find himself in a situation where he MUST open his knife left handed. At that moment the Rock Lobster will give him the same one finger salute it give southpaws 24X7.

Hey if it works for you that's all that matters, I'm not a fan but I am a fan of the knife your GF gets out of the deal.

It's ugly.....and I want one soooo bad! I was told my Walther PPS is ugly and it makes me appreciate it that much more.

Must have something to do with euro design. Finger cut out reminds me of LeafStorm.

I have not held that knife yet, so for me the jury is still deliberating...

I tried to like it, but in my hand it has the ergonomics of a brick wrapped with barbed wire, and the nested liners prevent me from grinding off the offending topography.

I love my PPS....and I love my RockLobster.

I've said this before but I'll say it again. Spyderco's beauty lies within actually using the knife.

Ugly, BUT I LOVE IT!!!!

I love it!!! Not a big liner lock fan, but still think it's one of the sweetest Spyders out there!!

Unattractive, but I may still own one some day. A knife doesn't necessarily have to be a thing of beauty for me to buy one. I will say this, the Foliage Green doesn't help it win a beauty contest at all.

These mixed feelings must be a very common feature among Spyderco collectors. :D
And truly, aesthetic beauty is only one part of the beaty of a tool, functionality is the other.
