Lum Chinese's cutting ability is scary

I've had a blue Lum Chinese for a few weeks now, and I've been loathe to use it because it's so pretty. It is the sharpest knife I've ever used straight out of the box.

So I've only used it once....

I had a large heavy cardboard box, that was used to hold furniture, that I needed to take to the trash. I had been taking photo's of my Lum when I casually thought, "I wonder what it's like cutting boxes..."

The box was about 4 feet high, and stood on a smaller box, so the top of it was raised to about 6 feet.

Anyway I made a casual diagonal slashing action, not really using any strength at all - it wasn't a furious slash.

And the Lum almost cut right through the entire length whole box - it probably would have, but my slashing arc was too short.

The cutting ability of the Lum is frightening. Goodness knows what a Military would do.

Cool,

Aye, and what a beastly cut it would put in skin!
*shudders*

Keep that Lum out of your finger's way!

*shudders* is exactly what I thought!

I had to double check that I'd actually penetrated the box. There was so little resistance to the slash. Also the cut was very fine, at first I thought it was just a fine cut on the surface, but it had cut all the way through.

Remarkable.

I tried the same with the Ti Salsa, which performed almost as well - with the Cobra Hood stopping the cut at the bottom of the arc.

The only problem I have found with the Chinese Folder is that it can open too quickly if your not paying attention.

The other day I opened the knife but the action was so slick the blade opened faster than my thumb was rotating. I felt my thumb lose contact with the blade and then felt my thumb brush the blade as it caught up. With some trepidation I looked down. There was a very thin layer of skin lying on the blade, I had to look quite hard to see where it came from as the slice was so thin.

That's scarey sharp.

There's a hole in the sky where the rain comes in, it's a very small hole that's why rain's so thin - In memory of the Goons

You just couldn't make the same sort of cut with a hollow ground blade. I do not understand why they are not more popular.

Ah, now I can sleep in peace.

Way to go, Jeff! You will no doubt be smitten with the "Lum Virus" as I was. ( Good choice on the color, too! )

Sleep tight, and don't let the Lum's bite!

The family is not complete until you have the new fixed blade. It is becoming my favorite non-hole Spy.

Yog,
Try tightening the allen (wrench) screw a little. The increased tension will prevent what you are experiencing.
Didn't particularly like the looks of the Chinese folder but finally bought one because of the comments on the forum. I bought a blue one from Mike Dye at Newgrahm.com and can't say how much I like it. It's a knife that will go anywhere, do anything; it's perfectly at home in the side pocket or inside breast pocket of a blazer. This very slim handled, sleek knife contrasts dramaticaly with the hand filling, brutish Gunting, my other favorite.
