A nice day for some mods... PICS...

Post by Jazz »

Did some mods today so that I'd accually use these knives. The Salt 1 already gets a lot of use - I just modded the blade for the third and last time. Now it's perfect - I recently rebought a new Salt 1 because I also really like it's original shape. The Native... well I just hate the way the hole's partly obscured, so, inspired by Deacon's modded Native and David Lowry's modded UKPK, I fixed it and can finally get to enjoying the Native :) . I think it was also Dave that inspired the D4 Wave mod I did. I got rid of the Wave because I just don't use it - I still have an E4 Wave that's staying that way, so don't freak out on me all you Wave fans :o - it feels great now and looks really cool and Spydercoish. Enough blabbing. Pics... sorry for the wierd coloring  ...

Nice Mods! I really like what you did to the Native.
Good work.

Cheers,
Mike

I have an Endura 3 CE that is chipped and needs work. I am stoked to have your Endura pic since it has given me an idea on re-shaping the blade.

The Native. Did you just grind the FRN with a Dremel? Is it that easy, so to speak?

There's nothing like making the knife your own with a little tinkering.

Not sure what knife you're talking about - I have there a Salt 1, Delica 4 Wave, and Native. I used a diamond disk on a Dremel tool for most of the grinding, then some files, and 400, 600, and 1500 grit sandpaper, and finally polished it with the Dremel's buffing wheel. Didn't take long at all. The Native was done with a carving tip on the Dremel and the 3 grits of sandpaper.

I like how the Native looks with the fully exposed spyder hole. How does it feel in-hand with that much material missing?

Nice. I like the Salt better this way, reminds me of the good old trusty Delica III :)

I'm digging the Native mod. That's very well done.

Also, I'm actually thinking about doing the same wave-removal on one of my trainers. I'll bet Aus-6 is much easier to work with compared to VG-10. :)

Thanks, the Delica reshaped looks like an Endura.

Interesting thread. I'm glad you like and use your knives! I also reprofile when required or desired.

I used it at work today and it feels a bit odd, but only because I'm used to how it normally feels, but it feels okay and not awkward at all.

Thank you very much. With the diamond disk and files (diamond and regular), I never noticed any difference between VG 10 and H1 - but there must be some. Do it! :D

Found a local guy who will re-profile my nik'd Endura. Dropping it off next week.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Okay... you got me wondering, so I checked it alongside my new Salt 1 and it's about 1mm shorter - good eye.
